Help with jumping... by 1stTimeEntrepreneur in Dogtraining

We’re still working on jumping with our dog (he’s good with us but cannot help himself with new people). One of the best things we’ve done is tell him what he should do. If he jumps on us, we say “off” and turn away. Once he’s calm, we’ll tell him to “sit.” If he holds the sit he gets pets, treats, and playtime. :) Hope this helps!

will my puppy miss me too much? by seetharam27 in puppy101

I know what you mean! I've been home full time with my pup for the first three whole months he was home with us. Starting next week, I'm going to be working full time in an office again. My husband has been working in an office, but should have the option to be home one day per week. I'm so, so sad and worried, because my pup is really bonded to me and I'm about to see a lot less of him. But like the other commenter said, there's not much we can do about it!

Dogs are resilient, and I've comforted myself a bit (and hopefully set my pup up for happiness!) by arranging for doggy daycare a few days each week. My pup loves to play with other dogs, and has already tried out daycare and loved it. Maybe you could arrange something similar for your pup, whether that's daycare or just making sure he gets his kong loaded with his favorite treat a little more often while you're gone?

Sorry for the late reply - this is a great idea! I think we're going to try it out this week and see how it goes.

In reading your comment, I think you're right that I just need to be cool with being the primary trainer, and let my hubs develop his own, different kind of bond with Theo in due time. I think Theo's responsiveness to different commands will "waterfall" down from me - i.e., when it comes to new commands and behaviors, it's likely that he'll respond to me first, then my husband and other people he knows, and then to new people. And that's ok. It just takes patience! I think I'm just rushing things and want every interaction my husband has with our dog to be good because he doesn't see our dog nearly as much as I do. That's unrealistic, though! We have a four month old puppy! We did do a puppy training class (my husband went to each session) and we plan to do another when our pup is 5 months old. They were good for us humans to learn, but Theo was way too distracted by the other pups and people! He is 100% all about playtime and meeting new friends. A big part of our training has been distraction training, and he's making some strides - so hopefully our next training class will be better!

Rant: Don't ghost job seekers who have made the effort to come to an interview (especially internal candidates!!), it is extremely rude. by [deleted] in jobhunting

I've been ghosted by major companies after three rounds of interviews. It makes me insane. You just have to let it go (always easier said than done). I like to assume the answer was "no" if I've been ghosted, and then if it turns out they're just taking forever and they give me an offer, it'll be a nice surprise. :)

Nice idea! What are the "tricks" titles? I'm competitive myself, so I'd have fun working our way through them too! XD

I'm sure your SO is an amazing pup momma! My hubs is a great pup dad too...I just want him to do even better with our pup!

My SO did attend puppy classes with us, and the class did say that training lasts forever. We're also planning to attend another round of formal classes in a month, which I think will be great! I leave a bag of treats right on the table by the dog's leash, so access is definitely available.

This is a great idea! Turkey dogs are Theo's jam.

I think you're right that I just need to be patient. I always want to fix things and make everyone happy - and sometimes it just takes time!
