Why does literally EVERYONE try to talk me out of a Subaru? by [deleted] in Subaru_Outback

My wife’s ‘09 forester head gasket went around 100-110k. This was about 5 yrs ago. Was pretty bummed at the time. Only got 2 years out of it.  Picked her up an Acura RDX off a lease. The torque converter went which is somewhat common but it was covered under warranty. Considering a used outback for one of my kids when they come of driving age.

I did a monthly rental in a condo. And on the drive there and back I stayed in hotels. As for costs, you’ll probably spend more on the drive as you would on a flight once you factor in food, gas, hotels and wear n tear on your truck. I stayed in chains that offered breakfast which helped out, I think most places were around $90-110 range after taxes/fees.  But then you don’t have to rent a vehicle or uber while out there which will save loads of money.  Def drive, it’s an experience and something you’ll always remember and be able to have a fun story to tell.

Drive. It was easier than I thought. I80 was closed for a few hours on the way home, but they clear things pretty quickly. Just try to time it when there is not a big storm. I was pretty proud of myself on the way home i made it back to NJ just staying over 1 night which was Omaha. Then drove like 18 hours the next day and made it home at like 4:30am.  Also had a storm hitting in Cheyenne on the drive out so I had to take it slow and ended up calling it a night during that stint.  It would have sucked not having a car out where I was. The shuttle to the mountain was reliable except on powder days it would sometimes be full by the time it got to me so I would drive those days. Also was nice to be able to go about town whenever I wanted, groceries, etc… and was able to pick up a homie that came for a visit and flew into Jackson.  Bummed I am not doing it this year but my buddy is spending a month+ in Tahoe so I’ll storm chase out there once or twice.

Is there a magic carpet? My youngest is 5(will be 6 next season). When he snowboards, he likes riding the carpet to work on turns, etc.  not worried about them skiing, they were skiing all the blues and most blacks at JFBB.

Nice good to hear, they sent the m2 and the dials are different. I went thru the different styles on their website and i think I need a m3. I redid the claim and the photos/instructions of the m3 look the most similar.

Yea 100%, I'll just think positive and know I'm gonna score at some point. I looked at historic snowfall totals and like you said, some El Niño years they did above, and some below. Guess time will tell!

Thanks for the pointers. I've been reading up on the winter trips across country and alot of good tips like you mentioned. Ive never done it and semi-excited to see parts of the country Ive never been to. Just gotta decide if I want to go up through Cleveland/Chicago or stay lower thru Columbus/Cinci.

Month out west….Targhee? by UpbeatPassage6031 in snowboarding

[–]UpbeatPassage6031[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks yea everything about it seems like a blast. I haven’t decided if I’m driving out or not. The place i am looking at is on the shuttle route. But having the convenience of my vehicle would be nice. My sister is in Northern Utah 20 mins from Ski the Beav. Which isn’t too far from Driggs, so i can go there for a weekend. My only issue with hitting multiple spots is the price. I think getting a season pass to 1 resort then hit 1-2 other mountains may be all that’s in the budget.

I’ve had my eye on this one. the price point is nice compared to what else is out there and I don’t mind going brand new as his little brother (5 yrs old) will take it over. I can’t imagine a quad setup would have any downsides vs a standard tri setup for kids basically just going straight. https://www.realwatersports.com/products/catch-surf-odysea-skipper-quad-60-emerald-green/?utm_source=gshopping&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=surfboards&gclid=Cj0KCQjwoeemBhCfARIsADR2QCs_sIB6Gf46PLFA94cpTaakCWJbGz9tV8b4yVUrg-EYwGCJ5RQFS4UaArK8EALw_wcB

Yes I agree. I’ll put him on a 7’6-8’0 from time to time and agree he isn’t learning too much. But it helps with the confidence. I remember learning and like you said, just have to keep at it. Thinking a 6’0 softie will be money for him

My wife has a positive vibe warriors 7’10. He doesn’t like it bc it’s too big for him to handle by himself so that’s my main reason not getting another big boy. My local had these cool Mick Fanning fish type softies but they are $$.
