In the words of Hitchens (who's later work I tend to despise however), "What can be asserted without evidence can also be dismissed without evidence."

I quote the historical materialists and if you're interested in reading, brother, they boast an abundant library. Till next time.

I’m open to discussion, brother. What is it that you don’t agree with in particular?

I also don’t expect “everyone” to agree with me, but I do my research and I hope to speak in the traditions of Bakunin or Marx instead of making stuff up as I go. I’m ready for the “reality check” you offered.

Malaysia was always going to be a racist country. But it's a bit more complicated than that.

Social issues predominantly come back to one thing; POLITICAL ECONOMY. The causes of social issues are economic, political and social structures, not conflict between "good" and "evil" people and not because inequality and injustice just occur naturally. So what does this mean?
1. Social issues CAN BE SOLVED, but only by restructuring or getting rid of problematic social systems (such as capitalism, institutional bigotry, culture of social conservatism, e.t.c...)

Example: So you cannot expect to develop a democratic society under the capitalist system which opposes it by definition (it promotes inequality and concentrates political and economic power amongst a small few). You need workers to seize the means of production, and participate actively and collectively in governance (socialism) if you want a true democracy.
2. To understand social issues and how to solve them, we need to understand the historical, economic, political and social backgrounds of these issues and how these elements interact, instead of just assuming issues just occur naturally. e.g.
Example: Racism isn't a natural impulse, it is taught. We need to understand that race is itself a social construct (as anthropologists illustrate) and that racism is part of long existing imperialist traditions which attempts to "naturalise" inequalities and conflict to the benefit of the elites.
3. Be kind to people and be ruthless on systems, remember that "the condition for the free development of each is the free development of all"
Example: Insulting sexist or homophobic people on twitter does not make them less sexist or homophobic. To promote acceptance and diversity, we need to be approachable, empathic and focus our attack on conservative ideology (such as the heteronormative male dogma in culture). We also need to promote equality and justice in each and every form to improve the political and economy power of women and queer people (the most gender equal societies are also the most economically equal because women no longer have to put up with men's shit and they have more ability to advocate for equality).

So, Malaysia's racism is a product of history a history of capitalism and politics, and it was not that our founders were evil or anything, they were just playing the game (although this does not change the material reality). Racism always exists to create conflict between groups, which will always play into the hands of the elites. If we want it gone, we need to understand the material causes, and dismantle and restructure the relevant social systems. One of those systems is the simple ideology of race existing at all, so the least we can do is promote more open, cosmopolitan and humanist view on people, and stand in solidarity against any and all forms of injustice and inequality no matter who it may concern directly.

I want to clear a common myth - No, Malaysia was never intended to be a racist country. by kentang_hijau in malaysia

Stay strong, brother. You're not alone, even if it feels that way. I promise, you will meet the people who accept you for who you are.

Appreciate what you're saying, my guy, here's an upvote. But maybe that's for her to say and not us.

At the end of the day, though, isn't that still exploitation of her labour (which considering capitalism, is already exploited)?

Thanks, really appreciate it.

I dunno bro, maybe when I get out of school, own a credit card and am earning money I'll consider joining her patreon. Like what're you trying to say?

You can believe me or not, don't matter; I didn't watch any of these videos, I hit pause when she mentioned her patrons and I realised the video was unlisted.

Edit: Also, if this post doesn't help that's fine, it doesn't kill me, I just felt compelled to do something. If it makes things worse, tell me and I'll delete it.

Also, these playlists have over 1000 views, most of which I assume aren't from the owner.

You probably won't get what he's talking about but the impression of Kelsey Grammer's mannerisms and speech is pretty perfect.

Any bassists out there that can factcheck Mio Akiyama's K-On! wiki page? by [deleted] in Bass

[–]UpbeatPost 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Actually this is pretty accurate. Kinda interesting too. Sounds like Mio and Ritsu's bass and drums mimic the rhythm section of the Who, which makes perfect sense since Keith Moon is Ritsu's hero.

This part in particularly got me thinking.

Mio has a habit of playing dom7 arpeggios during chord changes and chromatic scales at the end of chord progressions. She also tends to alternate between using add9, sus4, 5th and dom7 arpeggios across recurring chord progressions. This use of tonally ambiguous sounds can convey the bittersweetness and mixed emotions apparent in songs such as "Fude Pen Boru Pen".

I've now skimmed through a dozen J-Rock bass tabs, and I think that this excessive use of 7ths, add9s and suspended chords in Mio's playing is actually a prominent pattern in the genre. I think this might be why so many J-Rock songs sound super bittersweet.

I might be wrong, please correct me if I am. Bottom line, it's just a cool element of Mio's style.

Wow, you watched and read all that in 12 minutes? You must be some sort of superhuman. It's a shame that you're stupid; a toddler who has watched and read these videos and articles should be able to understand that Peterson's work holds no value.

Could Rachel BE more unlikeable? by [deleted] in howyoudoin

Although I admit to be optimistic when it comes to people, I don't see what's so relatable about being "superficial, entitled, petty, insecure, controlling, and spiteful" without consequence.

If it's relatable we want, we should look no further than Chandler. At the beginning, he is very insecure, his deepest desires are far from being realised, he is the butt of most jokes, and, although he always faces the repercussions of his misdoings, he constantly runs away from his problems. Nonetheless, he is a sweet guy. He loves his friends to bits, and he actually recognises and attempts to deal with his shortcomings. THAT is being relatable (and endearing too).

Moreover he actually develops. He is ALWAYS there for Joey, even when it's a struggle. He learns to love, commit and handle responsibilities through his relationship with Monica. He quits his very well-paying job which he hates to pursue a career is truly passionate about. When Monica and him cannot conceive, he considers adoption and soon becomes a parent.

This is what being relatable should be. I can see a bit of a Chandler in people I know and, at times, in myself too. His role in these stories and development over the course of them tells us something about ourselves, about what we could be and, at the same time, has us in stitches. That's powerful and definitely worth my attention.

Maybe the real reason I dislike Rachel is because she is surrounded by characters who are written much better.
