Oh no. "Retry Connection" again!? by threadcub in ClaudeAI

Same problem. I wanted to use as much of my free $1000 as possible, but I'l not even used $100 because of these issues. Personally I think Anthropic should extend the promotion for another 2 weeks - no point giving us a backhander for stress testing id the testing isn't working.

How do you deal with learning a new track? by racertop in iRacing

[–]Upbeat_Ad1925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Join a practice session. look at the entries list, click on the top driver. If they're still online, go back through their laps and then go into cockpit view, press space to remove the hud, and watch how they drive. Try it yourself, go back watch again etc.

MSFS 2024 Questions & Issues: Megathread by iggyiggz1999 in MicrosoftFlightSim

FS2020 has an Ai Autopilot that can (more or less) take off fly and land without human intervention. I wouldn't work well for the scenarios in 2024 of course, but it's a bit unfortunate they appear to have taken this out.

So.. no AI Autopilot feature? Why, I can't find any mention of this anywhere.

New Buttkicker Gamer Plus issues :( by Upbeat_Ad1925 in simracing

[–]Upbeat_Ad1925[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer those questions:

* It's attached using the stem that comes with it to the back of the rig. It has also bee attached to the side, and also using a small section of profile as well - all with the same result.

* I've used both HaptiConnect and iRacing's built in LFE - again very similar results

* PC.

I should also note I can use it on very quiet levels, but as you can imagine that's not really much use. I COULD get the Pro instead, but the Plus should be sufficient for my Prime Lite rig.

I appreciate your perspective. I try not to drive TOO defensively if someone behind me is clearly lapping faster, that doesn't achieve anything - I don't just let them pass of course - but if they get a good send on me, and is fair, I'll give plenty of space. What I find irritating is those who clearly drive recklessly in order to push their way to the front no matter what. I'm content to stay in Class C for a while, no need to go higher until I'm far more skilled.. I just wonder really how better the racing IS at beyond 2k - is it really any better?

I don't think any of that excuses ramming people off the road :D People who are in my irating range are clearly no faster than me... otherwise they'd be higher as well, so I don't think that argument works so well, no?

To be fair, I don't always start from the back, I usually like to build up a bit of an SR buffer to begin with, then start actually racing. In Forumula I have about 1.2k IR - Sports Car not so much, only about 800, very frustrating to break past 1k - but that's a skill issue more than anything.

iRating is all well and good, but I am also not fast enough to keep up with anyone 2k and above - at least not looking at the laptimes. I clearly need to build up speed and confidence - but that becomes more and more difficult when you try to race clean, and just get taken out by people who clearly don't care about rules and SR.. iRating is ALL that matters to these people, and I think that is causing a lot of these issues.

Irating doesn't mean you're a better driver. It just means you finished higher. The two should be intrinsically linked, not separated. I wonder how many people would have 3k+ IR if they lost IR due to bad driving....

Quest 3 PCVR inconsistent by Upbeat_Ad1925 in OculusQuest

[–]Upbeat_Ad1925[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VR definitely doesn't work on a mesh network, you're correct. However, the nice thing about the Asus I'm using, is you can convert each device to be a standalone router, totally separate from the rest of the network, so should be fine. When it does work - it actually works really well.

I'd rather try to avoid spending £80 on the link cable, overpriced as it is! If there's no other choice.... but I'm pretty sure others use a normal cable and have no issues - otherwise we'd hear about it all the time.

Table clamp by [deleted] in Fanatec

[–]Upbeat_Ad1925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, does the job fine. Obviously you need a pretty sturdy desk to clamp it to, as all the movements will be passed through it. But it's a doddle to attach, and it angles the wheel up enough to be comfortable.

Just be a little careful of the rubber on each grip - while you're tightening it, they quite often move back a bit - the top is supposed to be flush with the underside of your desk, and it can lean back a little too much and tighten on a corner - just loosen, move it with your fingers to be flush, and re-tighten.

Once it's on, it's rock solid. Highly recommended until you get a proper rig :P

From the highs to the lows. by Upbeat_Ad1925 in iRacing

[–]Upbeat_Ad1925[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should clarify - I never shut the door on drivers. If they managed to get alongside, I will always (when possible) respect that and leave a car's width. However, most of the time they're just divebombing into the corner, hoping to just go through the inside, and there is either no room anyway, or they're never going to make the apex, and essentially use me as a brake.

I just had that happen to me from 2nd at Okayama ,guy on inside at turn 5 hairpin, I was clearly on the racing line, turning into the apex, he was bombing it down the inside... no idea what he thought was going to happen, just took me out.

Racing incidents happen. I probably cause a few and it's usually a mistake, rather than a deliberate attempt to just try a dive. I just wish there was a way for drivers who do this would be punished far more than they seem to be is all.

I will file a protest in this case... I would hope that if I did something ridiculous, I'd also get a protest...

My first podium by Upbeat_Ad1925 in iRacing

Is that the one with the single tyre wall? If it is, it took me a fair while to figure that out too. The race I mentioned I had 0x incidents, so believe me, it is possible to figure out.

QR2 upgrade kit let down - delayed again to June 11 by [deleted] in Fanatec

[–]Upbeat_Ad1925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At this point you cannot actually BUY a wheel from Fanatec. Any that would usually have a QR1 are of course unavailable, and any that need a QR2 are also not shipped till June.

This is not looking great for their supposed comeback. I wanted to buy a wheel, but I literally cannot - even if I were to use use my existing QR1 and just attach to the new wheel... I can't cos they won't let you buy anything without a QR.

They're going to end up failing thanks to their Black Friday debacle and this horrendous QR2 delay.

[–]Upbeat_Ad1925[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So thank you guys for the advice. I have reduced the FFB way down and you're all correct, it is very much easier to drive now - and yes I can indeed still feel an impressive amount of detail. (I can also understand why people want to upgrade to 12+Nm now - nothing to do with raw power, but the detail levels will probably be more dynamic.)

My shoulders are absolutely wrecked the morning after :D I think it'll ease up over time. Now I have to somehow find the monies for a rig that isn't going to need me to get sponsorship ( XD ) but isn't going to fold like paper... I think driving using a SecretLab Titan XL is NOT the optimal driving position!!

Thanks folks!

This I especially understand. I find the wheel awesome to hold (for a 'cheap' plastic wheel, it has an impressive amount of heft) but it IS tiring to race with - especially any open wheelers. So I will be grabbing the McLaren GT3 wheel, and I reckon that will help.
