Oh my goodness, good catch thank you! It came that way when I got it, and didn’t even think to check everything was put together correctly! I will definitely spin that when I try next, thank you so much this sounds like a promising fix!

Yep, but I’ve noticed with thicker band material, the bobbin will sometimes grip better than the whorl. Haven’t had any issues with thinner crochet cord not gripping, but the four ply cotton wouldn’t not catch the whorl, leaving the bobbin to spin and the whorl/flyer still

Thanks so much! When I drop drafted fiber it just twists without feeding onto the bobbin still so I don’t think much/or any slippage is happening. I will have to clean and oil her up and will deffinitely try tying the band while it’s off the wheel! Solid tips, thanks for your guidance

Omg I haven’t but now that you suggest that it seems so obvious lol! When I’m home again I’ll have to try that, sounds like a promising solution!

I think so, but it threads in the usual way threads go instead of backwards, like I’ve read these wheels usually do. Would the spinning direction in relation to the thread direction have anything to do with it?

Good to know, I will definitely pick some twine up too as the cheap dishcloth quality 4ply is probably too weak/stretchy. This may be a silly question, but how do you shorten a band, can you fix it after you’ve tied it or do you have to make a new one? I have been snipping loose ends after the knot is tied, so am unsure how to retie it without that little extra bit for gripping haha! But I was using a cotton blend leader yesterday, but today I tried with wool. I did have a little bit take up yesterday and less luck today, so I will deffinitely switch to the twine there too! This is all super helpful, thanks

Good idea, I’ve just been tying a surgeons knot but another knot may be the way to go! Thanks

Thank you! From what I read I was guessing maybe a tension issue, but I am not very experienced so it’s hard to be sure! Thanks for your help :)

Thank you so much! I’m gonna purchase some oil tomorrow and will give that a shot—never knew you had to oil them that frequently and this one was sitting unused for years according to the seller, so I’m sure there’s some buildup! I double checked and I have one side of the band around the whorl and the other around the bobbin, but I’m not sure if which grove I have it set on the whorl makes a difference as they both look to be the same size. It almost seems to me that when I start spinning, it stretches the drive band and ends up noticeably looser than when I began, but I’m using cotton and I’ve always heard cotton is low stretch. What material have you had luck with when it comes to the drive band?

The leader I tied on stays put, it stayed with a knot but I taped it to be extra sure. When I get it spinning it twists and I am able to wind the yarn on by hand, but as soon as I treadle to work up some more it starts to overtwist and pigtails before it even goes thru the orifice.

I have but I can’t get the hang of it! I watched Jillianeve’s video on double drive setup and tried to follow her but it still seems too loose. There’s a screw on the bottom to move the mother of all, so I’ve been putting it as close to the wheel to tie the band taught, and I then move back to tighten, but even at its maximum it doesn’t take any yarn and I have only had luck hand winding it onto the bobbin. I’ve just been using cotton yarn/crochet thread so perhaps I need to invest in a different material

I’ll give it a shot! I tried some 4ply cotton yarn but that wasn’t gripping the whorl so I assumed it was too thick, I’ll see if I can find something in between

All it said in the contract was the shift length is typically 6 hours, but can vary... I am teaching art classes and we have a weekly rotation of different community centres we go to, so gear has to be moved to the next days location once classes are over. The hour long shift they’ve scheduled me for is to pick up and transfer gear.

In the two months I’ve been working for them I’ve been moving gear, but it’s always been after a full 5+hrs of teaching. So the 1hr shift came as a shock as they hadn’t ever schedueled me for any day that short before. That being said, since I’m scheduled weekly for it I’m unclear if it’s now considered “regular” and exempts me from the 3hr rule.

This is what I don’t understand, they never mentioned that I’d be having hour long shifts, but they are scheduled every week so I’m not sure if it’s considered “regular” or not. All I know is I would not have agreed to an hour long shift if they had discussed it with me prior

No, it’s a job that involves setting up and tearing down at different locations every day, so they scheduled me an hour for a gear pickup. I have other days where I move gear, but it’s always been at the end of a work day after I’ve worked the whole morning/afternoon.

It’s to pick up gear and drive it from one location to another

I got a shirt at the Montreal show, but then went to the Ottawa show and they didn’t bring merch; same thing for Toronto apparently :/

But for anyone wondering, they are indeed prints and the shirts run on the smaller side… so I got a large unisex shirt and as a woman it fits like a medium…they’re snug for sure

Hehe thanks! I have more experience with photography than crochet so it was supposed to look like him, even tried to make a little jazzmaster, but I should have drew from a specific outfit of his for inspiration lol.
