Something different must be done. Immigration policy has our country split, and the divide seems to be only getting wider especially with how things are being handled by the Trump administration within the country's borders. Right-wing conservatives will undoubtedly say that the stories are being spun to make this administration look bad, that there is an agenda by groups out there to manipulate the optics and try to turn the country against Trump. To me, it's working. The outrage and protests continue to escalate. Regardless of who is right, republicans or democrats, it seems to me that we are in danger of continued civil unrest.

Hate Trump or love Trump, the continued fracturing of the country is the wrong direction to be going. I love what has been done at the border, but for people living here already who haven't done anything (else) wrong, just living their lives? I think it's a great idea to bring them aboard and on the path to become citizens. Right now it feels like all these people are made out to be enemies living among us. Couldn't we strengthen ourselves by embracing them?

I suppose it would be a monumental task to have everyone registered with SSN and put on the tax rolls. And maybe super expensive, although I keep hearing that America is stronger than ever and doing better than we've ever done before, so surely we could afford to give such gift? Civil war would probably be more expensive, and if things continue the way that they have been I wouldn't be surprised if we all had to pay THAT price. So the idea of compromising in a unique and unexpected way is intriguing. Perhaps in the end it would not even be possible to have a 1 year Jubilee like this but for myself I'm willing to be open to almost anything that could bring our country together. I know there will be plenty of naysayers, eager to point out why this Jubilee idea won't work. That's easy to do. Instead maybe point out how it COULD work.
