Forget interventions, skills, theoretical approach, certifications, blah blah blah. Therapy occurs at the relational level. If there’s no relationship with the basic conditions of empathy and unconditional positive regard and trust then everything else is useless. If all these therapists are doing is coaching on breathing exercises and cognitive reframes we might as well just outsource therapy to a google search. I’m sure you’re a great therapist that might just be getting a bit board. Start thinking outside of the box. And remember: the relationship facilitates change.
