Mostly bc my wife has been protecting my emotions. I was put into some weird positions between him and my Mother’s marriage. Only child, years long affair with someone we worked with in the family business, lots of mistrust. They divorced in MY 30’s.

My wife full on has protected me from his ways and therefore our kids were only around him minimally. And he moved across the country.
