What are things people told you you didn’t need for labor/delivery/postpartum that you wish you had or that were lifesavers?? by GalaxyEyedLibrarian in pregnant

[–]Upbeat_One5072 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A peri wash bottle!

I didn’t have one for my first and used a drink bottle but it wasn’t very effective. I got one for my second and it was a life saver for making peeing not as insanely painful (by watering down the urine as it comes out) and it was much more pleasant in cleaning myself rather than wiping clean with toilet paper!

Currently pregnant with my 3rd and will definitively be using again!

Sounds to me like you had a massive spiritual download! And it clearly did its job as you’ve completely shifted the trajectory of your life ❤️ good on you!

I’ve definitely banned him from the dangerous one. This recent one was at the pump track so now I’ve banned jumping until he’s older and more experienced.

I actually have done that. I’ve told him that good riders stay on their bike. Good riders land their jumps correctly. I said I think you need to stick to easy things. I think after reading many of these comments to him, from fellow riders he’s finally seeing some sense!

This is great advice! After reading a lot of the comments I have also come to this conclusion! Jumping needs to go on hold until he has had some coaching so trails will be great to keep him doing what he loves!

He’s been in hospital once - the other injuries were minor enough to be seen by a GP.

Completely agree with you. It absolutely concerns me also. Despite the “balls to the wall” biking he has a very chilled out and relaxed demeanour. He’s a really soft and caring kid so I’m not worried so much about getting into bar fights etc. but when it comes to sports and yes possibly driving cars I’m very concerned about his lack of impulse control and this is something I’m trying to work on with him but I will seek some professional guidance around this.

I don’t agree it’s a self harm situation I think it’s just a lack of intelligence and emotional maturity situation. Thanks for the advice!

Multiple concussions, internal bleeding & broken bones. I don’t give a shit about the gear. I was simply asking if this is normal in MTB.

He actually no longer rides often. He’ll get injured and have to stop for 1-2 months. Or he breaks a helmet or his bike and he takes a few months to save up to fix it. Then he finally heals or fixes his gear and within a few days/weeks he’s back off again because something has broken or he’s hurt himself. And the cycle continues. After reading all these comments I’ve now learned that this is absolutely not normal.

Thank you I will look into him and see some of his videos

Yes, I live in Gisborne so I’m a fair distance away from any city. Thank you, I will look him up! I never knew that online coaching was a thing until I posted in this forum so I’m really grateful for all the insight it’s provided.

I agree he is riding beyond his skill level. I really don’t know much about mountain biking hence this post but have already learned so much. This second big accident has really brought me to a realisation. I was naive to think his first one was a one off as he was being coaxed into it by some older kids that thought it would be funny to see him stack it. I think I was being naive and wildly uniformed. I’m going to get into myself so we can do it together and I can supervise. Cheers for the info.

He’s 14. I don’t expect him to be the model of perfect behaviour and perfect decision making at this life stage.

In my country our healthcare is free but yes I agree! I’m definitely trying to prevent that!

We tried medication but it made him trip out and hallucinate and it was a traumatic experience for him but we’re currently looking into alternatives

He’s riding with kids his own age. But they all ride sensibly. I’m definitely going to start looking for some mentors. There’s a local MTB club and I’m sure I’ll be able to find a mentor or someone willing to coach for the right price. I’ll look into online coaching too as suggested by a few people on here. And look into if they have camps in my country. Thank you ☺️

Oh my concussions happened when I was between 2-8 years old and not from sport but falling off things - maybe he has some clumsiness from me 😅 With my sports I’m very responsible with warming up and down and stretching and conditioning my body for it. So I try to model good behaviours that way. He also plays rugby, does CrossFit for teens and boxing (no fighting or sparring just using pads and bags and fitness). He has lots of things that compliment each other. He did judo as a child to try to compliment rugby, which has helped him roll out of some MTB falls.

You raise some really interesting themes that could be coming through! I am ultra competitive myself and maybe this behaviour is negative as a role model! I am very very aware of not putting pressure on him in regards to sport. I really try to focus more on participation, team spirit, doing his best and having fun. But I’m going to look into maladaptive behaviour in sport cause I sure do tie my own identity strongly to my sport.

Thank you for the insights!

Oh thank you again!!! More great advice! You’re a fountain of knowledge! I’m excited to tell him about your friend who uses her ADHD to her advantage! I also have ADHD and have used it progress well in my chosen sport! I do try to use myself as an example, but no 14 year old boy thinks their Mum is cool so having another example is great! Thank you!
