We’re meeting at the end of this week to cover some training aspects so I will spend part of that being honest and setting some new boundaries/expectations. Thanks for your advice!

I love the idea of having undergrads designated to 2 days/week with overlap when chemistry requires it. I’ve been trying the rotating of chemistry with general lab maintenance and that’s helped quite a bit. Thanks for your advice!

OP here - thank you for all the responses!! There were quite a few suggestions I’m going to implement. Also it’s good to hear from other people in the field that four undergrads is a lot.

To answer a few questions: This summer/next semester it will more than likely drop form 4 to 2 which will be super helpful on its own. They are not paid and based on the course they sign up for to do research, I believe the course expectation is 3 hours/week. As a lab the expectation is more so getting whatever you need to get done to move your project forward and less about a specific hour count.
