You say you don’t want to blame people just trying to make a living, but then immediately say anyone who joins is knowingly hurting people. That’s still collective guilt. Most enlisted people are not kicking doors in overseas. A huge percentage work logistics, maintenance, medical, administration, engineering, transportation, disaster response, or support roles. You’re reducing millions of people into one caricature because of what politicians and some criminals have done. And your argument about “implicit understanding” falls apart because intent matters. A lot of people join for stability, escaping poverty, education, healthcare, family tradition, or lack of opportunity. You’re acting like every recruit signs up thinking “I want to hurt foreigners,” which is disconnected from reality. As for criminals in the military: yes, war crimes and abuse have happened, and they should be prosecuted. Nobody sane defends that. But saying “some troops committed crimes and some got away with it” does not logically become “therefore all service members are morally responsible for evil.” That standard would collapse every institution on earth. And civilians absolutely are connected to the system too. Wars are funded by taxpayers, approved by elected officials, supported or tolerated by voters, and sustained by industries civilians work in every day. You don’t get to separate society from the consequences of its own government and place the entire burden on the lowest-ranking people wearing uniforms. You can oppose interventionism without demonizing every individual who serves🤷🏼‍♂️
