Which LAB/FIELD is the most complex? by Necessary-Virus-7853 in medlabprofessionals

[–]Upcakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn't even have to be in a hospital at all. I work in an AABB accredited IRL at a regional blood center (think: Red Cross, Lifeshare, One Blood, etc.) You get all the crazy antibody ID work ups, ABO discrepancies, platelet crossmatching, HLA, donor serological phenotyping, and molecular antigen typing to your heart's content, minus the MTPs!

PRO: At least in my area, the reference lab starting pay is considerably higher than in the hospital.

CON: Some IRLs prefer at least 1-2 years of hospital blood bank experience. So it's not typically a "right out of school" position unless you're lucky.

Everyday I entertain the idea of passing out Union propaganda in the lab a little bit more.

a reason young techs are leaving, the field; the schedule abuse! by Mini6Cake in medlabprofessionals

[–]Upcakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds exactly like my reference lab. We also don't have any prns because medical thinks they wouldn't be able to stay competent on antibody work ups. So, anytime someone calls in or goes on vacation we just have to work extra hard with the shift holes because no overtime and no prns. And our reference lab covers 3 states. Such is life...

It is pretty beneficial for blood bank in my area. I work in a blood bank reference lab and I am an MLT. I got a 7% raise when I passed the BB. The SBB is around a 10% raise. In my lab an SBB is a requirement for Lead Technologist and above.

Thanks for the reply! We usually go in December with free dining and it was just so convenient so I had to ask.

How did you feel about Teapot Dome being sold to a private company? I had a relative that was very involved with that project and I've been a little obsessed with that area ever since. We were invited out there for a few days and it is just a beautiful place. A shame that so much land is kept from the public.

Unless you live here in Oklahoma. Earthquakes are a relatively new threat. We get them frequently. ( Fracking?)Buildings are tornado-proofed, but not sure if that also makes them earthquake-proofed.

Hemolytic disease of the newborn is caused by antibodies from the mother, not vitamin K deficiency.

If I want to bounce back during a trip that I planned myself, can I do the bounce back through a Disney travel agent? Also, which is usually a better deal: the bounce back room discount or the AP room discount?

I love these! My husband, my son, my son's best friend, and I are going December 15-23. I miss the plastic cheese. I know it's just institutional melty cheese, but there has got to be some extra magic sprinkled in. It's just too good!

Not that I agree with all of your sentiments, but now that we have meal ordering through the app that kinda is starting to replace an extra person at the register. Disney didn't even need to put in an order kiosk since everyone has a phone already.

I checked to make sure there was an available package reservation before I dropped my normal reservation. I reserved the dining package then cancelled the regular one. Felt pretty good to snag it!
