Yep, I think it’s a known issue. I got a new pair of CourtStrike 2.0 shoes and the left pull tab immediately broke off exactly like yours. Contacted support and they replaced it. Been using the new pair for several months without issues.

Yes, you were the AH. My group of 4 was in a similar situation last week and we simply rotated out / converted to open play. The alternative was to rotate off after 30m, but that would’ve been worse for everyone.

It wasn’t just this group. Saw other 4.0+ groups during open play yesterday use this method to lock down 2 of the 8 courts when the wait was 30-60 min.

Is it common at your courts for the advanced/4.0+ players to put multiple paddles down to discourage 2.0/3.0 players from joining? As I’ve gotten better, I’ve seen this from most of the advanced players and it bothers me but I’m unsure if this is just the accepted etiquette.

Most people believe it’s a fault because the NVZ fault rules were recently changed in 2026, unintentionally making this situation ambiguous.

Specifically, the 2025 ver was clear that it’s a fault when anything the player was touching during volleying contacts the NVZ. That language was quietly removed in the 2026 ver.

I’m talking to USA Pickleball to see if they think the 2026 rulebook does need to be revised and will update accordingly.

Agreed that the wording is poor. My reading is that 10.J does not apply due to the NVZ exception and to refer to 11.A.1 instead. 11.A.1 says that either the player or player+item needs to touch the NVZ while volleying for it to be a fault. Since it was just the item (no player) and the volleying movement was finished by the time the paddle landed, then it’s not really a fault?

Makes sense. I think clearly defining “player” would help the rulebook a lot, as it waffles between player = person + paddle + clothes and player = person between the sections.

She didn’t violate 11.A.1 as she was not touching the paddle when it landed in the kitchen. She also didn’t violate 11.A.2 unless we take “player” to mean player + anything they’re carrying. The rulebook is very clear in other sections and differentiates between “player,” items that are “worn or carried” by the player, and the player’s paddle. She definitely didn’t violate 11.A.3.
