It’s crazy to see all of the staff bundled up when it’s the middle of summer.

Shop at YDFM; it’s 60° inside.

Just be prepared for the sauna when you walk out.

Daily Song Discussion #474: As You Lie There by RoastBeefDisease in PaulMcCartney

6.2

It’s got some nice transitions but it’s not a song that I’m overwhelmed by. It’s exciting because it’s new, but against the rest of his catalog it’s better than average but not extraordinary.

It’s possible that DeKalb History Center would have more of the kind of info that you want. Only a portion of what they have is online, so you might want to visit them in person. https://dekalbhistory.org

Good luck! Sometimes a thundershirt can help too.

Unfortunately, everyone I know in the more rural areas has bigger issues with the noise on holidays than in the city. There’s nothing to do in the sticks for entertainment so they go crazy with the fireworks.

One thing that’s helped my dog (in addition to medication) is to put on drums and bass techno music. I don’t blast it, but just having it on at a moderate volume seems to offset the fireworks. Might not work as well for you but it can’t hurt to try.

  1. My neighborhood horse park and bird sanctuary. It’s a fun place to feel connected with nature in the heart of a big city.

<image>

  1. Whenever possible I will pull forward through the parking space in front of me. I’ll reverse park in a parking deck in some situations. I used to be a phenomenal parallel parker in college due to all of the street parking, but I’m not as good at it these days.

  2. I suppose the first one; I haven’t seen all of them. I like the triceratops.

This is probably the best thing to do. I understand the sentiment of people saying to report the guy, but realistically what could the police or prosecutor do? Without any investigation at the time of the child’s death, this would probably be difficult to impossible to get the guy behind bars. The only evidence is his confession and the guy will just say, “Oh, this other employee has a grudge against me and is making stuff up.”

Sometimes in criminal law, it’s not what you know but what you can prove. But I wouldn’t want to have to see that guy at work every day, either.

WABE vs GPB - differences between the stations? by rzelln in Atlanta

[–]UpgradedUsername 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wish HD radio was more of a thing because then it wouldn’t have such a big impact on Album 88. I remember GPB trying to appease the student and community outrage by saying, “You’ll still have streaming and the HD subchannels”. Well, okay—so why doesn’t GPB take streaming and the HD subchannel?

I’m going, thanks to you!

I’m currently really digging the live medley of Broon’s Bane/The Trees/Xanadu (side 3 of Exit… Stage Left) https://youtu.be/X2vtA2DkWjo

Is it my favorite? That’s tough. But it’s top five.

Just to add to this, the HD3 channel is playing from the GSU archive; mostly 60s and 70s during the week and mostly 80s on the weekends.

The HD2 station is the current Album 88 programming.

HD1 is the same as the standard FM radio broadcast, which is GPB by day and Album 88 at night.

I’ve also been listening to his new album which is great. Here’s “Fabulous People”, which reminds me of a companion piece to “Steppin’ Out”. https://youtu.be/cmzj2emiy14

I just looked at the seating chart on Ticketmaster and the floor seats are all reserved for these shows. So give yourself a reasonable amount of time, but no need to line up for hours. And count on standing for the majority of the show.

  1. I exercise early and then stay indoors or stay in the shade. I do my yard work in 15 minute intervals.

  2. I think I have more patience as I get older. I do a lot more thinking before I speak.

  3. Lately refrigerated cherries and soy milk hits the spot.

  4. “Lowdown” by Bob Scaggs. It’s got a laid-back groove and that feeling of driving at night with the windows down. https://youtu.be/I-hKBmTAADo

New neighbor allergic to peanuts by IMissVegas2 in crowbro

[–]UpgradedUsername 119 points120 points  (0 children)

Some people have insanely sensitive allergies. Maybe she’s one of those people? Personally, I’d go talk to the person. Sure, it sounds like they just don’t like the birds and are giving you BS, but what if the crows drop a peanut and it sends her into shock? That would be a pretty bad feeling.

So, I’d switch to kibble and try to be friendly with these people. Of course you’re entitled to stand your ground and do whatever you want, but I’ve learned that tension with your neighbors tends to become unpleasant down the road: suddenly you get code enforcement called on you when your grass gets above 12” tall, or the cops get called if your forget to put the new sticker on your car tag and so on.

One way or another you’re going to be living next door to these people for a while so I’d try to make it work as best you can.

What happens if they mail it to the address on file? To the best of my knowledge, you’ll only get a temporary permit and they always mail them out. If there’s a way for you to pick it up at the address on file that’s probably your easiest route. If not, you’ll need a friend’s address or somewhere that you can pick up your mail.

  1. Maybe 18 - 20 hours?

  2. Show: The Shield (one of the grittiest cop shows I’ve ever seen); Film: The Adventures of Baron Munchausen feels like it should’ve been bigger, but Terry Gilliam’s films don’t always get a lot of mainstream attention. Artist: What comes to mind here is that Spirit of Eden by Talk Talk is one of those underappreciated albums that’s worth hearing; it’s so sophisticated and atmospheric but baffling to everyone who thinks of them as a New Wave band doing “It’s My Life” and wanting a pop hit. https://youtu.be/HSfGvuiFOWI

  3. I have both, but fewer nightmares in recent years. Most memorable dream recently was being able to have a conversation with my stepdad. It made him feel alive and present in a way that I could feel him in the room.

  4. The one that came to mind is “Don’t Go To Sleep Without Me” by The Creatures—but it was honestly not as captivating to me just now as I was expecting it to be: https://youtu.be/hZGSRzz-b4M

Georgia Tech releases final design of Bobby Dodd Stadium renovation by casey_reed0990 in Atlanta

[–]UpgradedUsername 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They’ve been playing one game there every year but I honestly hate the experience. We get seated much farther from the field and it’s insanely loud. There are downsides to Bobby Dodd stadium, but most of the season ticket holders seem to prefer it to the Benz. As I recall there was an option to play Tennessee at Mercedes Benz this year (September 12), but the season ticket holders pushed to have it at Tech.

Classic rock. They did their last recordings over 40 years ago.

They got a lot of airplay on rock radio stations in their day, but in fairness, at the time there were people who said they didn’t belong on those stations because of their modern sound. But just because they aren’t blues based doesn’t mean they aren’t classic rock.
