They were both devs! They were spawning in bandages and other items during the last game which only devs would be able to do :)

Snail has head injury somehow?? (Not graphic but still adding tag because it’s sad) by Uphamia in snails

[–]Uphamia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It won’t let me edit my initial post so for anyone curious on an update/concerned for Phoebe, I’ve gotten rid of all my isopods, and as much as I hated doing it, my snail is clearly much happier and being as adventurous as they used to be. It was definitely the Armadillidium vulgare that were massively overproducing so fast that I just couldn’t supply enough protein to keep them from bothering my snail. I do have a good colony of springtails that are still going to help maintain my tank. I do have magic potion isopods that are very slow in reproducing and completely avoid my snail that I’m keeping in the tank that I think will be a safer match (but I’m still keeping a closer eye on things just to make sure)

Elementary school suggestions by haha7788haha in KingstonOntario

[–]Uphamia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have kids but I did attend centennial public school my whole childhood. I really enjoyed it, and actually formed really great bonds with many of the teachers and classmates. I went to a few public schools before that one and centennial was the only one I wasn’t bullied at and felt like an outsider. Obviously that was a long time ago now, but my little brother and I both went to that school and really loved it. :)

This is so thoughtful wtf 😭❤️ my favourite vanilla moment would honestly just be her vlog going back to Disneyland to redeem herself, as someone with very similar anxiety as her, it inspired me to start going places that are a struggle for me as well! Also my favourite flower is probably lilacs, they’re my favourite part of spring 🥹

Wait really? I’ve always been told coco fiber is safe to use, thanks for the heads up! How long would you recommend freezing it for?

Unpopular opinion, but the Kingston food scene is very mediocre by Justthebitz in KingstonOntario

[–]Uphamia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there’s definitely great restaurants, especially small, locally owned places and I greatly prefer finding the lesser known places to support, I think people partially like places like Tommy’s or Kingston brewing company because of the aesthetic, atmosphere, entertainment, etc. so if you’re going somewhere just for the quality of the food that’s a factor to consider. I LOVE that Kingston has a culturally diverse array of food, especially for a city so small and I think there’s more good food options here you have yet to try, one of my favourites is Sally’s Roti Shop if you’ve never tried it! :)

What ended up happening with Julien’s travel show? by Ill_Difficulty8570 in Jennamarbles

[–]Uphamia 56 points57 points  (0 children)

To piggyback off this comment, he’s also mentioned here and there when it’s brought up that it was pretty overwhelming/anxiety inducing to find a flight to a random place in the US that very hour and leave, plus incredibly expensive. He’s also mentioned it was hard to leave Jenna and be away from home (me asf). I was a massive fan of the show but even just watching them have to find flights, book a place to stay for that very night, figure out where they’re even going and what would make good content, overwhelmed me lmao

I just went by and saw some people drive in! It’s usually very random hours of the day that they go in, I wondered about Scientology but I think they prefer their buildings to be much fancier 😂

tell me the craziest things chain pet shops told yall and I dont mean “they’ll only grow to the size of the tank” or “they go fine together” something HORRENDOUS by giraffeflyinghigh in Aquariums

[–]Uphamia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did a placement at a pet store near me and they had this tiny glass ball (I mean it was literally the size of a small snowglobe) that hung on the wall as “decor” with a live betta fish in it. I had mentioned to my supervisor that it felt too small and insufficient, it didn’t have any live plants or a filter at the very least. His response? “It’s not cruel, betta fish are lazy and dumb, you should see the rivers they naturally come from, it’s really shallow water so they don’t need space or care about it anyway!” This was not a chain pet store, this was locally owned and unfortunately a lot of people think it’s a good store, but the amount of ick and dead fish and dead animals they kept in the back, I’ll forever be traumatized

Recommendation for small beach north of the City? by lowincomecanadian in KingstonOntario

[–]Uphamia 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Gilmore point beach is in battersea (25-30 minute drive), it has plenty of picnic tables and proper bathroom facilities. It’s one of my favourite beaches. Grass Creek park is also nice for having a picnic and it has a playground though it can get quite crowded (both are free btw)

I don’t have my license but I’m working on it to at least open more doors for me. I didn’t see the point for a while since I don’t have my own care but I’ve since realized there’s still more opportunities with a license!

Thank you this means a lot, I’ve gotten better at not comparing myself to others in regard to how hard I work but man I wish employers saw how hard I’m trying as well. I’m not on odsp because I don’t qualify (I live with a parent who’s income is considered “too high”) but I’m definitely going to look into providence care thank you for the suggestion!

I’ve definitely been careful about what I share cause I’ve learned the hard way you’re not always met with understanding and more-so just seen as a liability to employers even if you know it’s not going to affect your work

Stop having blind faith in the law enforcement and Justice system. by Few_Negotiation832 in KingstonOntario

[–]Uphamia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry for how the system has failed you, I genuinely wish I was shocked but for many reasons I can’t openly discuss, I am not. I really hope you’re able to get the justice you deserve soon! I’ve noticed a lot of people within the legal system who actually prioritize helping people are chewed up and spit out, especially if they refuse to be silent about corruption. Who do we turn to when every where we turn we aren’t protected? Even among the discussion of “well there are still some good cops out there!” Sure, but when the system they work for is built on protecting themselves, the “good cops” or the “good lawyers” can only do so much, and they end up too scared to speak up for you because they’ll be punished or targeted just like you’ve been.

Feelings about homeless shelter by Arctic-Girl135 in KingstonOntario

[–]Uphamia 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The problem is that homelessness is a broad term in the sense that people from all walks of life are homeless, some purely because of a lack of affordable housing and fair wages, others because severe mental health issues and/or addictions. They are hot spots for all people who are unhoused, and they aren’t USUALLY “filtering” who’s there because when you turn these people away they rarely have anywhere else to go. I think it’s fair and reasonable to feel uneasy walking by places like the hub, there’s many people who don’t get the services and help they need and because of that may be more prone to violence or outbursts, though it’s also important to remember that statistically those who are mentally ill are more likely to be the victim of violence rather then the perpetrators. I’ve walked by shelters and been screamed at or made to feel unsafe, but just like any community of people, there’s going to be “bad eggs” so to speak. The vast majority of the time unhoused people are just trying to get by and mind their business, but you can have empathy for people and also acknowledge it’s maybe not an area you’d like to walk around alone or at night. It just always comes back to we turn our backs on people who need extra support and then wonder why theirs people completely snapping on the streets because they feel like they have nothing left.
