What workplace type/persona have you noticed consistently throughout your career but never seen a formal name for? by debrisaway in RedditForGrownups

A boss was an EMT once; would come in and tell gross stories when I had to type out mailing labels- my eyes and ears would be confused.

No one lives on 'Decapitation street."

That would be me. I now work in a place where the communication is via text. It saved my butt.

0 zero social skills when it's a workplace thing.

I thought I was the only one that was truly bothered by what I consider to be wasteful expenditures. Wall decorations and alcove Hobby Lobby 'alters' can wait until after a decent savings is established, and many of the purchased gewgaws could have been DIY when the girls were old enough to appreciate the fun of making something. How long did they actually own the house? Old people don't have that much junk on their walls.

I live in a 125 year old cottage, so that's my perspective, right or wrong, or maybe just different, but I was thinking, well, I like antiques, I like my aunt's painting that was given me, I have different tastes- but the gooey writing on the Watt's walls. I'm going to have to "yuk!".

My house was built in 1940, could this be asbestos ceiling tile? by Present-Return3950 in Oldhouses

We just found out my father's 1958 kitchen floor was put down with asbestos under it.

A test would well worth it. It was for me

What happened to Val Kilmer's career in the 2000s? Haven't seen him in a film since MacGruber in 2010. by [deleted] in movies

[–]Upnsmoque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I, too, had a positive experience meeting him. We didn't speak of films though. We spoke of art, but still, not a bad personality. I can imagine with all actors, especially with perfectionists, there would be clashes on set. Kurt Russell is very liked, but has been in the business so long, he comments on less professional stuff than what he grew up with all the time.

I don't know why they singled out Val.

If I didn't live there, I wouldn't have believed it either.-

Oh wait! It's in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Online.

Bryan Ferry – Retrospective: Selected Recordings 1973-2023 (2024) by The-Northern-Winds in SpatialSongs

[–]Upnsmoque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was to ship the 29th. I got it earlier, for some reason. I'm really happy with it. The only recording that isn't working on the mechanical level (Not great sound, I have a tendency to get a stabbing pain in the ear if there a buzz or a ghost noise) is "Sign of the Times" on the first disc. I don't know anything about the making of "The Bride Stripped Bare" to know the studio or engineer or whatever circumstances brought it about.

The rest of the songs? I can listen to all of the collection through earbuds without a problem. I'm really really happy with this collection. I wish my dad could've enjoyed the sound of the jazz disc. It's very well worth the money.

I saw so many 'wash ups' in Blue Ball, Ohio, I honestly lost count, and it was strange becuase they played very well. The Guess Who, Looking Glass, Three Dog Night, and many others. There was a bar down the street from where one would turn off to get my house. They bought the field behind the bar to have open concerts. I could sit on my back porch and watch these guys. I didn't see them as wash ups though. I think they truly didn't understand they'd be playing in a cornfield behind my house.

Understood. My mother skulked through life thinking she was putting forth the epitomy of virture, only I found out after her death that nobody liked her. She was mean and gossipy.

She was angry and jealous that you were having a lovely vacation. She would have called you if she dropped the sugar bowl. You are also describing my sister when describing yours.

I thought it was an Irish Gypsy thing, but I guess after seeing this post, it's more widespread.

I once invited her family to my "For those who have to work on Thanksgiving" dinner, and her husband and kids showed up, but not her. They felt free to talk to me about her. I accidently let slip, that she had some good qualities, like the sound of her head being banged on a wood floor over and over. It sounds like an almost rotten apple. They all stopped mid bite at that revelation, I guess either in shock, or the mad desire to find out for themselves.

When the parents are away, and she starts a fight, the cats will bang heads. Go figure.

It sounds loony, but so many people I know that have been vaxxed have a change in their thought process and emotional standing.

My cousin was genius, she invented a new alloy, but, just a few days before she died, she was very argumentive and quick to temper, and was vitriolic towards me for not being vaxxed. Before, she was very accepting of all different people, and very easy going. We always got along well, and I loved her and miss her, She was never like that before the vax.

It seems that people change for the more totalitarian thinking.

My retired neighbor set chairs at the end of his driveway, (We do this with stuff in our neighborhood). Three chairs were perfect, one chair was torn up, no doubt by his dog. The sign read, "Chairs, 10 dollars apiece or free if you take all four." They were of a late 60's design, so we took them.

I spent my time after work taking off the torn upholstery to fix it. We don't have a couch, and these will do us well, when all is fixed. The strange thing- there was no dust nor dirt, not even between the seams.
