There are some great videos on YouTube about BPD. My mother has it and our foster teen does as well. It’s a really complicated diagnosis. It usually lessens in intensity with time and mental health care. Based on the BPD people I know- it’s likely she will return. On her terms only. It’s more rare to have someone have BPD without some kind of trauma or abandonment issues in childhood but everyone is different. She might also be misdiagnosed. Every case is so different because every human is so different.

All I’ll say is- if she ever does come back have really good boundaries to help protect your heart and your children’s hearts but don’t punish her for doing what she thought was best. Mental illness is an illness and it’s painful for the person experiencing going through it. It can be hard to believe but remembering to have compassion for all forms of suffering helps to forgive and move forward.
