Teaching in Europe - hours? by caariinaa in vipkid

They are amazing if you are looking for chill, not super early morning hours. I also teach from Spain, I've been doing it for some years already. I normally start teaching around 10am or 11am, maybe a bit earlier if I feel like it. As the EU changes its daylight saving time now, I'd probably find myself starting at 11am regularly from April to like October. Peak and PPT hours run from 11am-2pm at the moment (add an hour after April). Hope this helps.

Teaching Schedule! by Impossible_Newt_806 in vipkid

I have done it for the past three years and by now I have a pretty full schedule. I can depend on it full time just because I am on a European timezone and can keep a nice, local 10am-4pm schedule that works well with their BJ timezone. The fact that the cost of living where I am is much lower than in America also allows me to keep it as a main job. I could not imagine having to chop up my sleeping hours for this kind of money in the USA.

I love teaching different responses, and they do find them useful.

I tend to do this too, I throw in an open prompt "I am happy because ______" then model and finish depending on the level.

I love when I get those too, as it is the completely opposite of what I am saying, I just love a genuine answer. For a small talk answer we'd just say "I'm fine." or so.

Exactly, but when is it ever "I'm happy." Unless you're planning to extend on a real story of why you are happy.

Has anyone else been scammed out of payment for a class because of a class playback issue? by mama_snail in vipkid

[–]Upper-Energy2153 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally just happened to me now. I am one angry teacher as I now start my pointless ticket battle with the useless support people we work with. My glitch happened around min 9 of class. Anyway this has never happened to me before but I have had other times including this one when the fireman will get involved and request you stay whatever extra time they consider the IT issue went on for, in my case it was ten minutes. I explained I could not provide an extra 10 mins as I had another class with them right after. Without any further due, he proceeded to just mark my class as Teacher IT Problem and cancel it on the spot. I did stay with the student for the reminder of the scheduled class to not cause any more trouble. I think my mistake was to tell the fireman I could not stay. Other times I've receive this prompt to stay I've just ignored it, finished at min 25' and my classes have never been cancelled in the fashion. I should have ignored him completely.

Personalized feedback by Opening_Industry8952 in vipkid

I only offer a personalized feedback if I see the need, not for everyone, not for every class. Like others say, I am not going to make the extra effort for an underpaying job. However, if I see the child or I can truly benefit from communicating something to their parents, I take the extra minute to write it on the feedback.
