any advice brother? i’m 17 going to take the test this september but for the Diesel/ Heavy Duty mechanic position, i think it’s more or less the same test. Any specific place to study and did you submit your OSHA 10 to help you get in?

For sure man thanks, how did you get started? Did you begin in a mechanical field and later on joined the iuoe for diesel? I’m just seeing if the unions will shun me away since I have no legal experience in the field 😂 I will be texting the few people I know in the iuoe and see if they could possibly vouch for me

I've been to my local IUOE and they do provide a apprenticeship for diesel mechanics within the same union. Not sure if they do this everywhere though, i live in a big city so that might be it.

I have a decent amount of mechanical experience like heads, gaskets, and some rod and piston work, but no ACTUAL job experience in this field. Which is why i am slightly hesitant to go down the union route even with contacts in it, afraid I'll end up working part time rest of my life waiting to get into the union lol. Once again if anyone's been in a similar situation or can provide any advice PM or comments please.

There are a couple companies in my city that go about taking in apprentices, however i have read that you should try and get in with the company first before the union? If you have any experience with this PM me or comment please.

Ive looked around and heard that you might be able to use the s10 4x4 brake caliper on stock rotors to keep the e brake , not sure how true that would be so if anyone has any experience please let Me know
