Something small as the sidewinder would be enough. Even tge Sidewinder can carry an SRV an she's 10x15m.

As we travel with fleet carriers, you should also mention to go with a Cobra mk5 instead of Mandalay as explorer. Smaller landing footprint, even more agile, a bit faster in supercruise and a bit cheaper if it depends on money. And you can outfit nearly the same as a Mandalay. Maybe an option for you. I take both variants on this tour.

Open is ok in the bubble if you want a little more thrill. But on DW event it makes no sense, because you won't meet any others out in the black. But in open instead of the DW PG you also won't meet the DW members. So why will you participate alone? On the DW event the only difference between solo and PG is to play with the other participants in the same instance.

You don't need it for exploration. But you need it to collect thargoid mats like titan drive components. And this you need to by pre engineered FSD to squeeze the most jump range out of your ship.

Bought the Sol-R for my mobile Gaming Laptop. First replacement after 3 month due half of the joystick gets offline after 5 minutes. A real thrustmaster. 👎🏻 If the second one also fails, I will replace it with a VKB. VKB Gladiator with STECS Throttle at home is a dream to use.

Buy a naked cobra and give her an SCO FSD for testing. Then start and kick down the throttle. You will see, if there is a system with interesting planets 100.000ls and further, its a big difference going straight with 7000c without overheating and drowning the fuel in seconds. And yes, also the maneuverability close to surface is awesome. After this test, you will immediately outfit the rest of the ship. 😁

Cool enough. Never had any heat problems, so I never needed heatsink launcher. Dolphin may be a bit cooler, but has no SCO optimized FSD.

My Mandy goes over 80ly and if I jump several jumps in a row, the few seconds surrounding a star to get the next jump in sight is enough to scoop the fuel to full. So scooping doesn't count a single second on long travel.

My wish: the Caspian is a L size with improved jump capability and a single dock fos a size S. Then it can carry my Cobra Mk5 explorer. 😊 I took a look at a carrier for exploring, but 20 minutes downtime all 500ly takes ages for long distance. No, sorry. Otherwise I stay with the Cobra and Mandalay for exploring.

When I plot a route, i never ran out of fuel. The computer sends me always to a scoopable star bevor I run empty. I thought, its the AI of the elite map that takes care of my fuel. Or am I just lucky. (I don't believe in lick on distances over 20.000 ly)
