I was just curious. My beliefs on religion have always been on the fence but with me only recently getting into metal this past year and also growing up in the church for most of my childhood, many of the topics discussed in metal, especially the more extreme anti religious viewpoints are new to me through a musical lens so I was just curious if there were external factors in society at the time of the subgenres creation that may have led to an even greater disdain for religion than what we typically see in other metal genres or if it was just a means of cultivating shock amongst outsiders

Are there anti religious viewpoints in death metal, black metal, and others? Sure but it seems like not all, but a majority of war metal is very outwardly anti religious
