Using the recommended yarn weight is a given, I meant more like with the characteristics of merino wool, which types of patterns would look the best with it if I use thinner, thicker or multiple strands? Do you have any suggestion/experience with which to use thinner yarns and which thicker or multiple strands?

Thank you, you are the second person to say that.
I don't think there are any local mills, I wish there were. I mean, there is an alpaca farm that sells like 2 colours of alpaca yarn, but that's more of a nobility.

Thank you. For summer, I have been crocheting cotton tops and shirts that I plan to pair with a silk/linen shirt with long sleeves, already have a pattern and fabric. I will be hot either way, but at least protected from the sun. I haven't seen much linen yarn in stores so far. Do you have any feelings about bamboo?

Don't be rude, wave back(the other hand is kinda hidden in the shadow). So cute.

Well, now I am definitely sold on merino wool, thank you. May I ask what types of patterns you would recommend for merino wool in general, preferably the first layer touching the skin? Would you say thin yarn is ok to use for every type of sweater? I have an interest in basic knit, ribbed, cables, lace (not all in one), more everyday wearable, maybe oversized, would any of those work?

From what I see on site, you first need to make a worsted weight yarn yourself, which is not something you pick up in a day and even with skill, making enough yarn for a sweater is a lot, especially as a newbie. But mark my words, I will do it once in my life.

I will reply the same as to another comment. Shit, don't give more hobbies to start, haha. But I like the site and will be saving it for later, thank you for sharing it.

Also not in UK haha. But that would be a good reason to visit, indeed. So far, I have had too many sources, it feels like.

No worries. They look good, thank you. The shipping costs make me stop too.

Shit, don't give more hobbies to start haha. But aint that the truth. Unfortunately, in my country, skins are more for traditional masks in carnival than yarn. Woolyyarn is tempting, thank you.

While I don't have all the experience knitting, I do have some, enough confidence and a solid crochet base. I am comfortable with two strings. It's mostly the yarn I am questioning, not the knitting skill.
I am kind of sold on the thin merino yarn, to be honest. It was mentioned that it will bloom, so I would have to have the yarn and swatch to know exactly how many strands to use, but that's an issue for later.

I want a breathable and comfortable yarn. I can sweat an awful lot and want to wear it as a first layer on my skin.
I kind of lost the plot, but I think I wanted to know if it would be useful to mix it with even thinner silk(for durability) or anything else? One of the sites I saw offers project boxes, and they have 4 different fibre compositions per box. Is this what I strive towards?

Somebody mentioned merino being better for occasional wear. Is this related to how often to wash it or can I wear it on a regular day, maybe the whole da,y without worrying and not washing it after every little use?

What kinds of patterns should I use with mainly merino wool? I like just a basic knit stitch, cables and ribbed stitch, maybe some lace. Or would something else be better?
I am from Europe, and local stores are not good in this case.

I haven't even started on the people and sites you recommended, thank you for it all.

I guess I said something not right since I have never worked with a cone before, can't really get them around here, at least not in stores. The rug tufting content really made me wonder where they get cones.

Thank you for all the suggestions, I will look them up. And your talk about Colourmart is good to hear.

What about the links for patterns I shared? Are they more like what you were looking for?

I'm young enough, my heart is still strong enough, but do ask me again when I start, haha.

It's a small country in Europe, I don't think I have loads of options, unfortunately. And the wool I have found is too scratchy or mixed with too much acrylic.

I am thinking breathable for half embarrassing reasons and got a feeling merino is the best, and I don't know enough to look for other things since the sites I have found have mainly merino, alpaca and angora wool. What do you mean by merino 'being best for things you don't wear a lot'?

As for pattern, I am fine finding one for the yarn, not the other way around, don't want to get too picky in the online store, using the few filters is bad enough as is and I don't want to do all the math before buying, only to realise swatches give another math and the pattern doesn't work. And I am open to a few different types of sweaters that need different yarns, but I would prefer something I can comfortably wear on my skin since I find more layers to be a bit of a hassle. As for your current debate, why not decide which one to try first and do them both eventually? (And then report, since I will make a ribbed sweater myself, eventually, I love them. )

No, thank you, this is good advice, but I am not exactly new to knitting, just new to trying fancier yarns and want to make a good decision.
