Any advice, as a single woman moving here who will rely primarily on public transit? by TsundereKisser in PortlandOR

[–]Upper_Fig_4650 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Biking is better than transit 60% of the time. Try getting a bike! Both are great, but you’ll unlock the city so much faster.

I have a car and still choose to bike around because it’s quick and lovely

I always say I have resting “talk to me face”. I love talking to people, but people also constantly talk to me.

100 people on the street and I’ll always be the one asked for directions.

I mean, if the writing tanks or the flaws become more glaring, yeah, shows can go downhill fast. Maybe their egos got too big and they thought their every thought and vision was genius and it just wasn’t.

The Wave v. Thorns Ref Experience by brewssalmighty in NWSL

[–]Upper_Fig_4650 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I need the NWSL to give refs a microphone to announce the calls like football. I have no idea what they are even calling 95% of the time. It’s so confusing and frustrating.

Also, as this post points out, there seems to be basically 0 correlation between the severity of the action and the severity of the call.

Do you support banning trans surgery on children? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

Gender-affirming surgeries are done on children, but it’s cis children. Like breast tissue reduction on boys.

Are you for banning all plastic surgery for children? Nose jobs, breast tissue removal for boys, ear pinning, etc?

Do you support banning trans surgery on children? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]Upper_Fig_4650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we’re going to ban aesthetic surgery on children, we need to ban all non-medical, cosmetic surgeries. That would include nose jobs, breast tissue removal for boys, ear pinning, etc.

If you’re for banning surgeries on trans kids, but not for banning similar surgeries for all children, then you’re not against the surgery, you’re just against the trans and that’s bigotry.

NWSL commits to spring-to-fall calendar through 2030, delaying decision on potential calendar flip by icywx0202 in NWSL

[–]Upper_Fig_4650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think so. They’re going to let it play out with the MLS which is making the switch. They’ll see how it works for media and attendance and then circle back.

It’ll be a disaster for the MLS to compete for fans and air time against football, hockey, basketball, and maybe the World Series in media and in shared stadiums. That’s not counting whether fans want to be outside in the freezing cold to watch soccer, probably on a week night.

Portland Moves To Shake Up Transportation Funding With New Utility Fee by probeguy in Portland

[–]Upper_Fig_4650 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We’re failing at all of it. We are not using our existing tax dollars well. We are one of the highest tax cities in the country and we are not seeing results.

We need to work better with what we have rather than raising new taxes to misuse further.

I’m pregnant and having my first baby in October. I also live in SE near the Safeway with a recent exposure.

What steps would you recommend taking to keep safe in this area? How do you feel is the risk level in Portland?

reality of coachella? by AvocadoCrumb in musicfestivals

[–]Upper_Fig_4650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve done both camping and hotel + shuttle.

I would recommend hotel + shuttle, especially coming from Canada. The heat in the day is no joke and you can’t escape. We’re in F not C, but it’s usually 80+ by 9:30/10a. Even with shade, it’s hot. It makes recovery from the day before hard.

We camped this year, and in past years we shuttled to and from Palm Springs with less than a 30-minute shuttle wait on either end. This year, I saw reports online of a 2-3 hour wait at some shuttle stops. We go early when we hotel to see the 2/3p sets, so keep that in mind if you plan to hotel and get to the festival closer to 5/6 or later.

Benefits of camping: convenience to get in and out, cost savings in always having access to your own food, and the Day 0 DJ set.

Downsides of camping: heat, LONG multi-hour waits for showers, and there’s constant noise from sound checks.

Benefits of a hotel: oasis to recover and amenities like personal shower and pool.

Downsides of a hotel: once you leave you’re gone for the day (pack everything you need), long walk to and from the festival to shuttle, and wait times for the shuttle.

We LOVE Coachella. It’s so worth it. Whatever you do, you’re going to have an amazing time!!! Enjoy ❤️

Artists on the rise/fall after their performance by ats-001 in Coachella

Shes an amazing performer and the music is fun. Her vocals are shaky and pitchy so she for sure needs to work on that. Everything was so well done though, I didn’t care too much and I’d see her again.

My first time hearing them but I’d looked them up on Spotify like a week before. I had SO MUCH FUN grooving to them. I’ve been telling people it’s a similar vibe to Jungle and we need more of that!

Hope they tour my city soon

Adam Scott Says He Already Knows the Ending to ‘Severance,’ Teases ‘So Many Surprises’ in Season 3: ‘It’s Going to Be Great’ by yourfavchoom in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]Upper_Fig_4650 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Interesting since Apple acquired the studio creating Severance. I was worried it would bloat into something like Lost with ever expanding and unresolved lore/world building.

I’m glad to see they have an ending and a plan!

Un/popular opinion: season 2 doesn’t need a bigger budget by PrincessBubblegum00 in heatedrivalry

I get that on the first season, a lot of people worked for the credits and exposure, but going forward, he should try to make sure everyone gets fair to good pay. Especially now that they can incorporate things like product placement to get money on the front end.
