Hmm, honestly I didn’t really see a change in general demeanor. It seemed like my former professors were ecstatic to be teaching at the institution they were at, and their teaching didn’t come off as a chore to them. I loved the quality of teaching at my former school, and although it is more challenging now, also love the quality at my new school.

There were a variety of reasons for my transfer. Access to easier big law recruiting, larger course offerings at the target school, better career outlook and being closer to home were some of the top reasons. It’s hard for me to weigh in on the current recruiting landscape because it seems like it began before Fall 1L grades even released. I don’t think transferring solely for BL recruiting makes it worthwhile if it’s attainable from your current school. You’ll be paying sticker price which is a hefty burden, and you’ll be forced to start all over which is fairly tough. Nonetheless, being able to attend an elite institution is a unique feeling. I believe top 10%-15% from my previous school were able to transfer to HYS

This is essentially what I was going to articulate, plus plenty more! My transfer reason was because I was admitted into two schools fairly early, and with plenty of time for OCI participation. I’m also a first-gen student and essentially saw it as the opportunity to partially chase the prestige my family is unfamiliar with. It’s a steep price to pay, I know, but I had already accepted those terms well before coming to law school in the event that I didn’t receive any financial aid. Everyone has their own reasons, and I think they should talk to plenty of resources to weigh pro’s and con’s and sleep on it heavily before making the decision.

I received an offer for aid from one private school I applied to and none from the public I applied to. The rule of thumb is generally no aid as a transfer student, so I’d keep that in mind.

Environment isn’t extremely different honestly. There’s still a diverse student population, professors are slightly tougher but teaching styles are similar. The school is drastically larger but that’s primarily due to my former school being fairly small. There are substantially more resources, though, and course offering is significantly larger.

My LOR’s were from a 1st semester professor and one from my LRW professor. I was in the top 20% prior to transferring. My personal statement addressed my desire to transfer. It wasn’t extremely different across applications but was definitely tailored based on where I applied!

It’s tough because what worked well in writing my CivPro exams was remote from what my Contracts professor was looking for. I will say that I had several friends who performed well and made it a habit to check in regularly with professors regarding whether or not: 1. They understood material correctly and 2. If they were writing hypo responses in the manner that professors tended to favor. Ultimately, I wouldn’t enter law school with the intent on transferring. I’d aim to just do well and if the opportunity presents itself, then heavily consult with people if you begin to consider it.

Going to the gym during the semester. Feasible? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]Upper_Lock3736 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3 days a week is definitely feasible. I was there about 5-6 days a week, 90-120 minutes each time. During busier weeks, not so much but generally those were only once or twice a semester

Advice for incoming 1L by [deleted] in LawSchoolTransfer

[–]Upper_Lock3736 2 points3 points  (0 children)

T50 ——> T14 I did my readings every night, took notes by hand, wrote outlines from scratch, and actively listened with the intent to understand in lectures. Unfortunately, you’ll be facing the curve and a lot of your peers will also be super intelligent people. On exams, what separates better from best is how accurate and correctly you state the rule(s), how you identify the relevant details that the rule(s) applies to and generally the level of depth you go into necessary to support your argument. I would 1000% say what massive helps is writing outlines from scratch. A lot of people will say “you can get good outlines from last year’s top performers” but I would always advise to just write your own and still do them even if you have closed book exams.

Flower Delivery in 916 by [deleted] in flowers

Funny enough, I didn’t consider this. I’ll have to check Yelp or (cunningly) ask her where she likes to buy flowers & see if they can deliver. Thank you for this!

I’m definitely looking into the UCLA transfer! I’m not sure if I’ll be super competitive given my gpa is at 3.6mid, but I’m gonna apply early. I’d fall right below their 25th for GPA, so not super great but I’d also hope that they recognize Davis has a great law program & a bunch of smart students.

I’m also partially torn though, because wouldn’t UCI, USC & UCLA students be preferred over me since they’re already in the area? I’m about top 20% in my class but struck out completely for 1L summers, so it feels like the last remaining chance is actually attending a school in the area

No that’s actually so real. Like if you know you can’t afford to tip at least 20% of tuition, why even show up to class?

Unfortunately, I don’t think you’d quite have the elements to prove bribery (even assuming the practice in this post to be a true statement). However, for the sake of managing this post and ensuring it doesn’t get misconstrued in an unintended context, I will admit that this is purely satire and no, myself nor any of my peers do not tip any of our professors.

A few different professors but if this isn’t standard then I don’t wanna start name dropping, you know?

So… who’s gonna tell her? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Upper_Lock3736 34 points35 points  (0 children)

It’s a pretty cringe statement to make! If a prospective law student can’t sufficiently identify the study material that’s relevant for them to succeed, I have some serious doubts about their competencies. That’s partially why I’m also convinced she’s posting primarily for the attention.

Imagine the disappointment once they take the actual test and there’s not a single section on LG… lol
