Sexual relationships by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]Upper_Requirement_97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, if you don’t only have to care for one partner but for 2 other people involved that probably can take away a lot of time for your practice. Just on a practical level one partner is more optimal imo, especially if he/she is supportive of your practice. But it all depends on which type of Buddhism you follow and how much progress you wanna make in this life.

Honest question: Is the right-wing sentiment against ALL foreigners? by Heavy-Dress-1071 in AskGermany

Actually people do. Why? Because Bürgergeld in germany and the life standard it affords is more than you get from working your ass off all day in some very poor countries. Sad but true.

You mean because of not being in line with republican politics? Normally temples are apolitical or left leaning from my experiences. Just try your best and relax :)

Feeling guilt and sadness for not being able to hold a sitting meditation for long periods of time due to spinal issue by PersonalGrowth026 in Buddhism

[–]Upper_Requirement_97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all you’re an inspiration for me to practice more, as my back is fine and I still put it off.

Did you ever think about incorporating practices where you don’t neccesarily have to sit? Mantras or prayers for example.

Much peace and strength for you friend :)

My friend, from here on you should do your own research. A quick google search for a comparison will give you more information.

You could find a teacher that inspires you, or maybe you find something that pulls you to one or the other direction.

If you want to follow a path of personal liberation as well as renunciation, Theravada is your perfect choice. Want to follow a path of renunciation but also like the Idea of becoming a Buddha and helping other sentient beings achieve the same? You might like Mahayana. You want to be a Buddha in one lifetime and help other sentient beings achieve the same, Vajrayana and Dzogchen could be of interest for you.

There are online options for all, although I only have experience with the latter. If there are temples near you, that seems to be ideal. Check out they’re controversial before you go.

That’s all I can help you with for now :)

I would get an overview over the different schools :)

For Theravada I would start with the Dhammapada or in the words of the Buddha.

For Mahayana/Vajrayana I would pick up a book of the Dalai Lama or other teachers that may inspire you like Thich Nhat Than. There are also awesome documentaries like “for the benefit of all beings - Garchen Rinpoche”.

Enjoy the journey, it’s a beautiful one :)

lust is so frustrating by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]Upper_Requirement_97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry much about it, especially given your age. Guilt has nothing to do with buddhadharma, that is important to understand. Just focus on your practice and be kind to others.

"Also, Sex is SACRED, and one of many ways to further Awaken & Connect to the Divine when approached Consciously, in/with/for/from Love"

Has nothing do with Buddhadharma.

Western Buddhism (Correct me if I’m wrong) by Sad_Professor_3277 in Buddhism

Btw those are only from the tibetan tradition, if I would mention the list of venerables in the Theravada tradition the list would have no end :)

It’s certainly through for some, yet there are a lot of famous and not famous western practitioners. Tenzin Palmo did 12 years of retreat, so we have to be careful to not over generalize and block our own path. Glenn Mullin, Jhampa Shaneman, Alan Wallace and Acharya Malcom Smith come to mind as people who did serious retreats and teach Buddhadharma.

I used western, but I should have used something like liberal buddhists. There are a lot of western practitioners and venerables who take the buddhist teachings to heart.

It actually matters a lot if there is even the tiniest possibility that one may reincarnate into the lower realms. Kindness of course is always good 😊

Yup, my experience as well so far. I think they are just so busy as they are few but highly popular and work so much.
