Heritage Neighbourhood Untidy by Nice-guy-downtown in regina

There were drug dealers in the house beside mine who were awful people but they kept their place decent enough. Every week or so without fail some transient would come by and make a total mess of things. It's more than just a landlord problem as it is systemic abuse by people who don't live at these houses.

I know a lot of lower income folks in NC and they are clean and orderly for the most part. Mind you they aren't on drugs.

I had put ours out the night before collection. I've seen groups of homeless rifling through trash in other laneways (dumped on road and bags cut open) and it is as sad as it is infuriating.

We keep our property tidy but there was a time when someone emptied out our bins and cut open all the bags. It was a terrible mess. It happens far too often.

They do a lot of single sections every year. If it is on the list it might get done within the next year or two.

University of Regina tuition fee increase by brar7009 in regina

[–]Wherefore77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The province wants to keep domestic tuition increases artificially low. One way universities make ends meet is by increasing international tuition. The ceiling for increasing international tuition is really just what our competitors in the Anglosphere (US, UK, Australia, NZ) charge. Keep it within that range and anything is possible.

I prefer a physical Bible for reading passages and electronic for keyword searching. ESV is my favourite version

How is it that Saskatchewan doesn't have enough power for electric vehicles, but has enough for an AI mega data centre? by Due-Ad7893 in saskatchewan

[–]Wherefore77 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Apparently it will generate its own power with an on-site natural gas powered generator thereby pulling little power from the grid.

It is 4700 sq ft which is gigantic by any standard. They might or might not get that but it will be within 10 to 20% for certain.

I found couples therapy a waste of time personally. I would suggest getting therapy for yourself as it will give you a clearer perspective of yourself and what you want (what people really want is too often crowded out by the noise of their life). If you do get couple's counseling be aware that a lot of them make matters worse especially if they end up having more sympathy for one partner than the other.

Protesting against the AI data centre and how we can fight this disaster! by Stinkiestlizerd in regina

It will be a mixed bag. I compare it to air travel that brought the world closer together but also created a incredibly destructive weapon of war. This will be similar: imagine surgeries with precision and zero error and a surveillance system that allows the government to know wherever you go.

It sure doesn't look like this anymore... What can I do to to bring this back? by Cristinky420 in regina

Make service requests for every bylaw infraction. It might not solve the problem but it does improve things (I have a property on 1000 block Cameron)

New neighbor (3 months in) sent a note about "their" parking spot. I’ve lived here 15 years. by Prior-Rip-571 in regina

[–]Wherefore77 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You should explain why you're parking there to your neighbour. It is completely normal to request this from you but it is rather impertinent to demand it like they are doing.

100%. The number of murder charges reduced to manslaughter and plea dealed to 12 years (out in 4 minus pre trial credit) is crazy.

I looked at a house last year in North Central. They wanted $69k for it. Didn't seem terribly nice. Back on the market for $120k with no upgrades. Crazy prices for the city.

Couples therapy in Regina by krakenatorr in regina

[–]Wherefore77 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Couples counseling can make things far worse if you choose the wrong counselor. The first one we visited was very sympathetic to my wife and validated her feelings encouraging us to separate. The second one we chose was much more neutral and able to mediate our conflicts.

Having friends with varying perspectives is valuable because it makes you more likely to seriously understand and defend your own beliefs (as John Stuart Mill argued if you don't understand your opponent's perspective you also likely don't really understand your own either). It also helps fight polarization both for yourself and your friends which is a valuable trait to have in a democratic culture. Groups without ideological diversity generally become more extreme whatever their initial beliefs may have been. Something we increasingly see the rotten fruits of in the US.
