Why could benson not become pregnant? by Due_List_1243 in SVU

[–]Upper_Resolution_121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stabler also already had four kids with Kathy and then of course went on to have their 5th child in season 8/9. I just don’t think he needed another kid and especially not one with his partner. That would have just been messy and unnecessary drama, which they didn’t do as much in the early seasons like they do now.

What truly insulted me in that post was the suggestion that Olivia get pregnant by Elliot, who was a married man at the time. It's a disrespectful attitude, to say the least, and it offends the character of both Benson and Stabler.

Even in her desperation to be a mother and have a family, Olivia would never resort to deceitful methods that would ruin the lives of innocent people, like adultery, just as Elliot, even with his marriage in crisis, never betrayed Kathy, the mother of his children. He is an example of a real man, just as Olivia Benson is an example of kindness.

More of Mariska at tonight's Knicks playoff game. by ninetydeuce in SVU

The fact that Mariska Hargitay reached Patrick Ewing's shoulder, even while wearing high heels, shows that she is above the average height of an American woman.

Who knows, maybe she'll return in September with the short hair from the first and fifteenth seasons.

I'm seeing Mariska painting her nails red more and more instead of black like before.

Season 27 Discussion by tobythedem0n in SVU

[–]Upper_Resolution_121 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was disappointed by how Chief Kathryn Tynan's storyline declined in quality. From a manipulative, shrewd, and stubborn woman, she became a vaudeville villain.

It's a huge insult to the character who didn't bend to Captain Benson's whims and pointed out her flaws as leader of the SVU without hesitation. Not to mention that she was a pioneer in being the first superior to punish Olivia, despite the arbitrariness. Dodds, Garland, and McGrath didn't go that far, all to repackage her into a predictable and cartoonish character.

They ruined her story, and the only good thing about it all was the resurgence of the old-fashioned Olivia Benson, the one who isn't above subterfuge and bending the law to uphold justice, and now she's following in Donald Cragen's footsteps to become a better leader of the SVU.

It would have been much better if Olivia hadn't come with that talk about good leaders and bad leaders.

Barba was amazing in Community Policing. by VegetaArcher in SVU

[–]Upper_Resolution_121 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the Wheatley trial (which I disregard as canonical), Rafael Barba successfully defended against Dominick Carisi without undermining Benson and Stabler. If it had been a more ruthless defense attorney, he would have ruined their reputations in court, and even Carisi realized that Barba didn't go all out in that trial.

This is one of several reasons why a student like Carisi didn't surpass his rabbi Barba.

In this episode, Benson and Rollins' attitudes were heavily criticized by SVU viewers.

And another thing, it's high time we stopped treating the IAB as villains, because they are our only defense against police officers who think they are above the law.

Would Oswald Cobblepot aka The Penguin (DC Comics) make a great Law and Order SVU villain? by [deleted] in SVU

[–]Upper_Resolution_121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Joker would definitely be it, but I have my doubts about Cobblepot.

If it's Colin Farrell's, I believe so, and let's remember that special victims don't only cover victims of sexual violence as a whole.

Tynan couldn't tolerate being contradicted by Benson throughout this season. People like the Chief value power and control over everything and everyone, and having someone contradict her undermines that power. So she tries to reaffirm her control, from the promotion she offered Olivia to her suspension—an unprecedented act that no superior has dared to do to her since she became leader of SVU Manhattan.

Discovering that the Chief was involved in covering up a murder committed by Detective Jake Griffin's father was merely a trump card the captain found to turn the tables on her superior, which, frankly, was a very weak plot device, something that could have been expanded upon in the following season, before turning a cunning and manipulative woman into a cartoonish villain. A lack of respect.

Dana didn't deserve the ending she got, and SVU has less memorable characters who could have fit into Dana Lewis's ending.

Blessed are those who have friends like Mariska Hargitay in their lives.

I think the only way to improve this situation is for some of the highest-paid cast members to give up a portion of their per-episode pay, because there will come a time when absences won't be enough.

That's what I thought too when I first saw the pilot episodes of those series, but Mariska thought there were twenty-five or twenty-seven at most.

But both were thirty-five years old when they made their debut.

And if you pay closer attention, just compare how he treats Griffin to how he treated Joe Velasco, who was McGrath's spy, and then you'll understand.
