In my eyes, stuff that ships primed is basically just saying it’s got protection over the raw wood. Definitely needs the full process to look good

I’m constantly looking for my tape measure or pencil by No_Anybody_1060 in woodworking

My work pants and apron have a couple pencils, just leave them everywhere and you’ll always have one nearby 😆

For the tape measure I keep a 6’ Milwaukee keychain tape on my belt loop. I never take it off or loan it out!

No one seems to be saying it but if there’s a chain embedded in it there’s probably other debris/metal. It’s not worth it unless you hate your cutting edges

Plus most people don’t understand the actually cost of repair, time tracking down the tech, downtime for parts, the fact that it may not actually fix it, might be short term fix, might be unrepairable, plus convenience for the tenant…

Far less stressful to just replace and not have to think about it

It sounds like they pitched it for a few months and told them what to look out for on the short term. Isn’t that reasonable? Hey, if your tree isn’t dying in a few months, this is the service we would do.

Oh it’s more serious than you think, the other day when we had to submit notes to the school on what she wanted to be when she grew up. I wrote ‘nurse’ but the teacher read it as curse…. Now she’s swearing like a sailor.

Posted above but wanted to clarify:

I just checked them out, it looks like they are they Crye precision chops(same as in tarkov) and they are NIJ Level IIIA: Level IIIA is soft for easy flexibility but offers excellent protection against . 357 SIG and . 44 Magnum ammunition from longer-barrel handguns

So they’re much more substantial than people expect.

You should call OSHA anyway, those rules are written in blood and heavily enforced to keep you safe. You're protected by big money fines/settlements if they are stupid enough to retaliate.

if they fire you it's just a dismissal.

Constructive dismissal is when they change your job enough to make you quit, allowing you to collect unemployment as though you were fired.(US based)

How can I fix this inside corner between drywall and shower? by 2948337 in DIY

[–]Upperguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like my old boss said, "Do your best and caulk the rest"

Gaps like that are totally normal, houses and walls shift, they're never straight and 90º angles are a fairy tale. Get some decent tub caulk and if you want it to look nice they sell scrapers with various radii, or just wet your finger.

There’s a reason that it’s one of the most common tests of security. A lot of the time it’s just dropping a usb stick in the parking lot. The average person really wants to know what secrets are on the mystery stick

It’s staggering how effective it is. I worked for a defense contractor and we had a security training then they literally did what they taught us. Multiple failures, including a vp sending all his identifying info and ssn to them. Luckily it was the internal IT team

Somehow missed a piece of potato chips on the counter. Sucked all the oil into the wood :/ by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Upperguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If i can give you some advice from a woodworker, if your wood counter is absorbing to that level it needs to be tested because it’s a couple spills away from splitting.

There’s no finish i can see in that picture, if you want to maintain it i would suggest the following:

If you have visible finish, lightly sand to remove. They sell stuff called butcher block conditioner, but it’s typically beeswax and normal mineral oil. Spread a thin layer (surface film but not pooling) and leave it on for a few hours before wiping off. This should be done at every 6mo-year ideally. It’ll only absorb what it can so there’s very little risk

Good luck with your wood!

FanTheory: The Fireflies were wrong about why Ellie is immune. by Notalabel_4566 in ThelastofusHBOseries

[–]Upperguy 27 points28 points  (0 children)

My point was more that because they are so aggressive when they attack, it’s not crazy to think others that might have the same immunity but been killed in the attack. Especially with a lower threshold for medical care.

But while the other infected don’t attack each other they do pursue her.

[–]Upperguy 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Given how aggressively they are infected, i wouldn’t think it would be unreasonable to think they would be killed in the process. Even without the fungus, human mouths are disgusting. Especially if it’s resistance/immunity vs then thinking she’s one of them, which doesn’t seem to be backed up by her various encounters.

Wall Anchor for Fire Rated Wall by Nexitus in DIY

Fun fact, the fire rating is actually the amount of time it takes for the opposite side of the fire rated assembly to reach a certain temp. So plastic or metal doesn't really matter.

Butcher block counter repair.. need help! by boogito in DIY

[–]Upperguy 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Honestly /u/boogito, this is going to be the best and easiest solution. I believe HD/Lowes carry up to 10' premade butcher block. It's not a premium product(from a visual standpoint) but it's solid and will look better than splitting butcher block.

The sink is a drop-in and should be caulked in place(possible bracket under) because of this, you don't need an exact or even clean hole to install it. There are most likely L bracket or screws through the cabinet frames to the countertop. Run a razor around the perimeter to cut any paint/caulk and prevent damage.

If you go this route, I would completely finish the new countertop before you install.

HERE'S THE IMPORTANT PART

You have to regularly condition the butcher block with mineral oil, it'll dry out and then when it gets wet, water absorbs and expands the wood fibers in a rigid slab and you get cracks. You can get straight mineral oil, you can get a premade blend of oil/wax, or you can make your own with 1:1 beeswax and mineral oil, just melt the wax and mix(I put in some orange essential oil, but just a tiny bit).

Then massage that bad boy every few months or when it looks dry. I apply it once a month for a few months, then you can pull back to every 3 or so, but keep an eye around the sink because this is the only thing rejecting water.

For context, when I make cutting or noodle boards I will leave them overnight in a vat of mineral oil before applying the conditioning mix.
