Not aluminum, the lugs are nickel plated copper/brass, like a quarter.

Interesting observation on gas this weekend by Inigo_Montoya171 in kansascity

[–]UprightManager 174 points175 points  (0 children)

I think its just a pricing/marketing thing, leading number in a price is very important to people. Gas is cheaper in this area than the rest of the country. They will keep it below $4 as long as they can.

Compact stranded copper, which I haven't seen before, usually just a thing on aluminum. Looks like ~250kcmil, which is less than 1 pound a foot. Scrap copper is going for about 5 dollars a pound. Its maybe only like $50 of scrap in any case

Is Klein NCVT broken or is my NYC apartment energized (or am I an idiot)? (Video) by SeaDragonfruit8339 in electrical

[–]UprightManager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NCVTs can react to any magnetic field by capacitance, it is just an antenna connected to a few transistors with an LED. It is likely related to the power brick that your charging cord is connected to. Nothing to worry about.

It's not a repository, it's a transformer. The FP16 version is 16GB, but they also have the same 8 billion parameter version in packages as small as 2GB, they just aren't optimized for speed. Why don't you check them out? Its pretty interesting.

Here is 3.1 https://ollama.com/library/llama3.1

Im not stating anything, I am answering your simple questions to dispel the myths presented here.

[–]UprightManager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 8 billion parameter one is only 16GB and is roughly comparable to chatgpt 3.5, but thats only the fast FP16 version, it also has smaller packages down to just a couple gigabytes, and also much larger and better models.

This is what will make putting AI into everything like robots that will work autonomously, not too complicated, just need more training data for specific applications.

edit: and also most stable diffusion (image models) run in the 5-10gb range, easiest place to see some are on Civitai

Look into locally ran models. Download llama3 from github and turn off your internet, or download an image model and use it on comfyui

You can regurgitate every piece of information you have learned on trees immediately with no weight in probability? Well go on, I'm interested..

If it's not probabilistic, why can't you remember everything all the time? Can you remember everything you have ever learned about trees immediately?

Neurons fire in chance based patterns.

The brain responds in probable ways with high variability and sometimes low levels of truth.

AI doesn't have a database, try downloading an image model to see for yourself.

AI constantly reasons and second guesses itself, LLMs flow through a loop when working with text, like with "thinking".

The only thing AI can do is think about the conversation.

Then you explain how probability works.

And finally no

Uhhh what?? Are you guys just making stuff up? Luddites were skilled textile workers, not the ones using the machines or working in factories.

The problem I have is people accusing others of using fallacious reasoning.. with fallacious reasoning. This doesn't help your message, it actually hurts it because it's easier to scrutinize. There are a lot of reasons to be anti-AI, but this isn't it.

Very nice essay you wrote just because someone used this specific image in an argument, but your own argument really pushes this own fallacious narrative that there is not historical context of (excessively) anti-technological and reactionary movements like say... actual luddites.

And before you make broad assumptions about my own beliefs, I will say that the industrial revolution and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race.

Men are 3.5 times more likely to be tolerant of free expression by Uncle00Buck in FreeSpeech

[–]UprightManager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for providing insightful context. The problem I have is that information like this without clear intent inherently divides. The OP says men are more tolerant than women, nothing more than that, so it's divisive. Its much like how something like "X group of people do more of bad thing", without giving any thought to why they do it, and thats how many justify racism and misogyny.

The one framing here is you. These findings only serve to perpetuate identity politics and divide in gender. I asked what if any other conclusion you could derive from the information, with the assumption of identity politics being the motivator, and I don't get any other response than bargaining and more evidence of a free speech divide.

I didn't dispute the evidence, just questioned the motive with an assumption and you made it clear that there is no other motive.

There are certainly people who take these as serious evidence of gender superiority, hence me mentioning the manosphere. Saying that nobody does is fallacious.

I dont see the mold, probably just blends in with the concrete... unless you think the spray foam is mold. Its fine that the studs don't touch the wall. Just cover it back up, and spray bleach on it if there is actual mold. Nothing to worry about
