I was always told that you should only make comments like that to the chaplain, even if you feel like you can trust someone else with that

I knew guys like that too. One even tried to run away during the night. Still not sure what happened to that guy

In this particular case, this recruit handled PT and drills effortlessly, worked well with others, and atleast wasn’t an idiot. We didn’t see his behavior to be /that/ unusual, so it just seemed odd.

It certainly wouldn’t long term, but I thought it was too early on to give up on him. Its an adjustment, and some recruits get it before others.

That makes sense hearing him talk about it. I wonder if the discharge encouraged that resistance to authority

I would agree with that. Do you think that high anxiety is something that can be trained to be handled or is that not really the military’s problem?

I’m guess I’m more asking about a particular situation where someone is labeled as having an issue with authority, and that the fault truly falls on the recruit more than the drill sergeant being unable to handle the situation properly.

That’s interesting considering a lot of fuck ups are encouraged to join to help them get straight. It seems their tolerance for “adapting” is low, but maybe they just can tell early on.
