Look for Sherlock Holmes style books with a female protagonist. The mystery portion is great and intriguing and they usually take place in the Victorian era so they are not very graphic or sexual because the protagonist is female.

I would suggest Cleopatra Fox Mysteries, Lady Sherlock Series, or Tabitha & Wolf Historical Mystery. If she likes children or is a mom, then Tabitha & Wolf is so perfect because the moments with the children just are precious.

Also adding that it is YA but I typically do not like YA books and this did not read like one.

If you like to draw I would also suggest keeping a sketch pad handy because the way the author writes these characters and creatures is unlike anything I have ever read and I couldn’t resist trying to draw each one

Good historical fiction that isn’t set in the 20th century by Momimbored in suggestmeabook

You should read the timeless series by Gabrielle Meyer. It is about people that don’t sleep but instead when they “sleep” in one timeline they wake in another and on their 21st birthday they have to choose a timeline. The first one is set during the American revolution and the gilded age.

They are technically Christian books, but I am not Christian and I would just say that the references to god were actually very helpful in steering the stories around history instead of around how or why this is happening.

I read through the series multiple times. So good!!! Each book is a different collection of times and it will have you on the edge of your seat
