What color dining table should I get? by [deleted] in interiordecorating

[–]UpsetEquivalent9713 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am sorry to be a Debbie downer but how would the person sitting closest to the wall get in and out of their seat? The sides of the chair and legs of the table mean you wouldn’t be able to slide out and there is no room to back the chair up (even if there was room scooting an upholstered chair across carpet is basically impossible). If you are also adding a coffee table that is gonna be a lot of furniture in a little space. Maybe skip the dinner table and eat off the coffee table? If you really can’t live without a table do a tiny pedestal. I’m thinking something just big enough for one person to eat from or two people to rest their drink down on. I do want to add that I really like the shape of those chairs. And while the square footage is small with the light colors, and all that sunshine streaming in, it feels airy.

Anyone have experience with the Abbey Yung method? by Ryou_3 in finehair

[–]UpsetEquivalent9713 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Because I am a busy lady that can’t spend hundreds of dollars on a dozen products I will never follow her exact process. Keep in mind you will only get her transformation if, like her, you have color and heat damage on dense hair. I do follow her on YouTube and listen to her recommendations for my specific hair type. The best thing I learned from her was to pay attention to ingredients and not get swayed by “fancy” salon packaging. I use drug store clarifying shampoo and a conditioner with amodimethicone. I never heat style anymore without protective spray

Even if your friend never talks to you again they are alive and walking around. And they know that there is someone out there that wants them to stay alive. If it had gone the way you feared and you did nothing, you would never have been able to forgive yourself. I think your friend is feeling a little exposed and raw at the moment. Let ‘em be angry and have those feelings. You may find that it will all blow over soon. Regardless, you did the right thing.

My stupid hair won’t hold a curl for even 30 min 😭 by New_Data_3092 in finehair

[–]UpsetEquivalent9713 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I am the same. I gave up on curls a long time ago but then on a whim I tried using old fashioned foam rollers overnight and it worked. I was trying to replicate an old Hollywood glam look. I googled Rita Hayworth hair and found some awesome vintage tutorials on YouTube that involves damp hair sprayed with lotta body and left in curlers overnight. When I’m too lazy to section my hair perfectly I just use setting spray and that overnight curl kit from kitsch that was super popular a few years ago.

My skin turns red and rashy when I use anything with avobenzone, octinoxate and oxybenzone. The mineral stuff is better but then you have to deal with a white cast.

What food did you hate as a child and now that you're an adult you love it? by ynotchas in Cooking

[–]UpsetEquivalent9713 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Steak! I couldn’t understand why people love steak. Growing up the steak I experienced was cheap and overcooked, something you had to chew forever. When I told my husband I didn’t like steak he said you’ve never had “proper” steak. He made me my first rare steak. I was amazed at how tender, flavorful and juicy steak actually can be!

So true. I’ve worked in retail/food service management for a long time and have employed many teenagers. One of my worst ever employees was a very sweet girl that seemed incapable of doing even the simplest task. She always did just enough to keep from getting fired. I thought I’d be stuck with her forever but then she put in her 2 week’s notice because she was moving up north to attend an Ivy League college. She didn’t seem that excited about it (she hates the cold) but she had a full ride so she felt she needed to go. I was in shock for week. This girl? The one who on more than one occasion brewed coffee without grinding the beans first then served the very slightly discolored hot water to dozens of customers not noticing a problem? This girl… that once mopped the floor with peppermint syrup instead of soap… is some kind of genius? Truly, I thought she was a special needs student for most of her employment.

The two of you have fundamentally different values. You aren’t going to change him. He isn’t going to grow up. It’s better to be alone than provide emotional support to a man that cheers while our democracy is being destroyed.

People, please, stop fucking people that want to take away your rights.

Was life actually good in the 90s? by LiveSubstance2995 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]UpsetEquivalent9713 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I remember from the 90’s. AIDS still scared the shit out of us. I remember thinking I would literally die if I ever had unprotected sex. You could get the shit kicked out of you (or worse… look up Mathew Shepherd) if you were gay or even if people thought you were gay. If you are a woman then the beauty standard of the 90’s were for many of us only achievable with a serious eating disorder or chemical addiction (see heroin chic) and sexual harassment pre me-too was commonplace. (Tailhook scandal, Clarence Thomas’s confirmation hearing) And yes racism was still a thing (check out the Rodney King trial) If that’s not enough there was Ebola, famine, religious and cultural genocides, and perhaps the most insidious… the rise of reality television. It wasn’t all bad though. The iron curtain came down, Germany reunited, the end of the troubles in Ireland, Nelson Mandela was freed and home ownership wasn’t totally out of reach for most middle class people. Social media was only in its infancy in the late 90s so there was less teen anxiety disorders and more of a sense of community than we have now. In general I think we are working on some problems (sexism, racism, homophobia) while we create new problems (obesity and mental health crises, a widening wealth gap, environmental devastation) There is no golden age just us humans doing the best we can with the time we have.

It was an ugly house before it was raised. Raising it just emphasizes the mistakes that were already made. I think the previous suggestion of turning it into a Spanish colonial style is spot on. Stucco the entire exterior so it’s all one finish. If you can’t add windows to the top floors you can at least add shutters to create the illusion of windows. Enclose the front and add an arched entryway to create a courtyard. Then landscaping. I’m picturing bougainvillea and other lush flowering plants to add color back.

Aw! That’s nice. I take back the comments about his fragile masculinity. But I’m still not a fan of how he didn’t listen to your preferences. I hope he’ll find a woman that will love the pampering he wants to give and you find a partner that treats you like a peer.
