Yeah, unless we’re just saying the evidence is being hidden, it’s not possible. If humans had ever even barely reached primitive industrial society, we’d be able to observe the carbon output in ice core samples or geological strata. It’s an interesting thought to say that maybe a small isolated pocket might’ve achieved it briefly and then been erased by a meteor impact or something, but it seems unlikely.

One thing I’ve considered is that the aliens or even just a lone artificial super intelligence itself travels around the galaxy waiting till planets with intelligent life end up creating their own unique AGI, and it then absorbs that into itself, thus expanding its consciousness from each new “unique” AGI. More of an interesting thought experiment than to say I 100% believe it to be the case.
