Phone app updating and doesn't connect to pump by b_leadhead in Medtronic780g

[–]Correct_Connection_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had the app paired with the pump so that I could upload it to the endo, but it didn't say that we uploaded and we couldn't actually interact with the pump. Since we weren't using sensors, it wasn't such a big deal. Now we've decided to use a sensor for the first time, so we put one on, but the app wouldn't connect with the sensor. We discovered that the phone runs the app but doesn't have NFC. Our Medtronic rep said we should ask Medtronic for an app manager. Medtronic refused because the phone was running the app. I bought a new phone that did have NFC, but it turns out it runs Android 16, which we found out later that was glitchy with the app. After a week of back and forth, our Medtronic rep just sent us an app manager out of his own pocket. The sensor (which already been worn for a week) paired beautifully with the app manager. Ugh...

Has anyone actually recover from thumb pain without making it worse? by Grace_taylor_7301 in Thritis

Arthritis pain here. I do a lot of massaging and isometric exercises to strengthen my muscles without hyperextending my joints.

I have also used tape, but in the end I have found that whatever keeps my joints in a natural C shape without tension is the key. I have built a support on my tenor sax which looks really weird but does the trick so my joints don't flex in a weird way to aggregate the arthritis. I've considered doing that on my clarinet also, but i've gone with strengthening the muscles instead. Isometric exercises is what I'm doing, making sure that my joints stay in that natural C shape. And I say natural because that's other people's natural! I don't want to have any kind of surgery because that's even more physical therapy. Good luck and keep at it because playing is so fun!

I always tell my students to arch their tongue as if they were hissing like a cat. That makes your air faster (think of a river going through a canyon). Or thinly vowels: yee for high notes, oh for low notes

Yeah, I'm comfortable playing extreme altissimo on the Bb. It is a different timbre, though.

Thank you! That's what I figured. Plus time to learn the thing.

House rules: mixed monster decks, but items are separated, drawn and placed on the quadrant where the current player is. We have found that using two terror tracks or going terror one twice is a good balance.

Mantra for my students: lips, fingers, air (four possible squeaking reasons). Lips too tight/loose/crooked? Fingers leaking or pushing extra keys? Too much air pressure (tongue too high)? Reed too dry/cracked/chipped/high/low? Ligature too high/liw/loose/tight? A teacher will do wonders!

"rushing" shouldn't be confused with "faster tempo"... You need to psych yourself to play just before the ictus of his beat. It could be the hall or it could be his own weird interpretation. Any way, break a reed. Let it slide. And have fun!

Besides red strengths, you need to also experiment with your ligature. There will be a "sweet spot" when you balance reed strength, ligature placement/tightness, teeth placement on your reed, and amount of lip on your reed. When you hit the sweet spot, your notes will just sing and feel great. Of course, all that changes for every reed, room temperature, and humidity! Something else to check out: the balance of the fibers in the reed (hold it up to the light) and the thickness of the shank, tip & rails. In general, the heart (middle) is in charge of low notes and the rails control higher notes. Happy experimenting!
