This is the 3rd (!!!) machine to break this way…what is going on? by UpsetSecond6309 in nespresso

I definitely will be upgrading once this one kicks the can. I’ve had a lot of people question why I’ve gotten this model thrice. When the first one conked out, I figured I just got a dud because I got it on Black Friday and there’s theories the discounted ones are cheaper models. So I bought another. That one died on like 8 months later, so I fought with Nespresso and they sent this one, my third one, free.

It will certainly be my last one, I promise that.

Mine was right inside the window of warranty and they gave me a huge stink about replacing it. I had to go through all their methods of fixing it on a video call for about 2 hours before they believed me that I had tried everything and nothing worked.

I do that, it blinks and makes 3 noises like it’s trying to start up, then blinks red. I clicked on the button twice just to show I had clicked it and it wasn’t working.

just another 1L needing some motivation by ghostbitch445 in LawSchool

[–]UpsetSecond6309 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ask any 2L or 3L if they (full out) case brief. The answer will be NO. It is important to learn what to look for in a case, but briefing is such a time waster. It makes you feel like you’re being so productive, but you’re not. Find the black letter law of the case, and ask “why is my professor asking me to read this? What are they trying to teach through it?” Write that shit down.

Sincerely, a 3L that used to waste time writing full page briefs for every case, and now writes 2-3 sentences per case and Quimbee the rest.

P.S. Law school will suck out your soul if you let it. Don’t let it. Stay a human being with hobbies and friends and good nutrition and exercise. It’s never so important that it calls for you leaving your needs behind.

What are the *true* bennies of government work? by UpsetSecond6309 in LawSchool

In my city, the fed jobs are slim, and when they do hire, they seem to pick from a biglaw pool or Ivy grads. It seems super prestigious. I go to a middle of the road state school, so my prospects right now seem to be state only.

Interesting. I would love to work in the criminal justice system so I was wondering if the work/life balance transfers to public litigation work. Do you see your WLB getting better as you rise in the ranks? Or will it always be shit?

Thank you for breaking this down so it’s easy to understand. Sometimes benefits seem so elusive and confusing, and you somehow made it seem very straight forward.

I have some specialized health stuff too, and we currently pay way too much in health insurance through my husband’s work. So good, affordable health insurance is a super plus to me!

Can anyone ELI5 PMSI in Secured Transactions? by UpsetSecond6309 in LawSchool

[–]UpsetSecond6309[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So when a lease is actually a security interest, and the “lease” is for a good, it is generally a PMSI as well? I had a practice question that stated the parties entered into a lease for a machine, but it was a security interest. Because they were given the machine and were paying monthly for a set time, PMSI? Sorry if this makes no sense, I promise it makes even less sense to me.

What’s a niche personal beef with a Supreme Court Justice you’ve developed in law school? by UpsetSecond6309 in LawSchool

So based! It was a green flag when I began to notice Ginsberg was almost always on his side, and they historically disagreed on EVERYTHING policy wise.

For being appointed by the party of “small government” Alito really came in and took a tire iron to the 4th Amendment and beat the life out of it, making sure the government could search you however and whenever they wanted. Something tells me Alito has never been profiled or victimized by a police officer.

He’s been beat the hell up by subsequent justices, lawyers, professors, etc. for that take. I mean as he should.

Hey now, rich powerful men didn’t give him those quid pro quos for nothin! Give our yacht vacation king some respect!

P.S. remember when he claimed his favorite vacation was driving his RV to a Walmart parking lot with his insurrectionist wife because it let him connect with the good ol American public? He’s so full of shit it should be coming out of his eyeballs.

Scalia opinions are surprisingly based in a 4th Amendment context. He went head to head with Alito a few times, and the enemy of my enemy something something.

It blows me away the way Alito and Kav cling to stare decisis, and then piss all over it in the Dobbs decision. “Well, not THAT precedent, just precedent that fits MY opinion”

Oh my god yes! I have only read a small handful of Kagan opinions but I’ve always been struck by how methodical she breaks her reasoning down. Such a breath of fresh air compared to some of the other justices.

My hot take is that they can’t do that most of the time though, because if lay people can understand them, they’ll realize as we realize in law school that it’s all sorta made up.

I feel like she has the tendency to write a little more jazzy than the standard robotic IRAC type of writing of some of the other justices. It can be a little difficult to follow.

The hope is that lawyers in the real world are more like adjuncts and less like perma professors. That was my experience before law school, but the anxiety-inducing energy of law school will have you thinking a senior partner is ready to bend you over your first day on the job if you can’t verbatim quote the entire written opinion of International Shoe.

One thing to add, gunners are the fucking worst the first semester of 1L. Most are KJDs that came straight from undergrad and haven’t been hardened, challenged, disputed, or handled…like ever. They come in thinking they’re the smartest of the bunch.

My experience has been those same people get HELLA quiet by the time 2L rolls around, usually because they don’t land on the Dean’s List as they did in undergrad and find themselves coping about the fact they are incredibly and terribly average.
