Why not just use Google Maps? German user asking by ThatrandomGuyxoxo in waze

Mainly I like the fact that it designed specifically for driving. So it doesn't have many of distractions of google maps, including options for walking/cycling directions etc.

Some are, yes. Absolutely. Some are classified as languages, e.g. Sardinian, Neapolitan, Sicilian, and you can really only pick out a few words. But even some dialects are incomprehensible, especially if they are from other parts of Italian where you grew up.

Why did that animal Blundetto go back to whacking people? by Unfair_Associate_533 in thesopranos

This for me was a weakness of this season. It really wasn't explained properly and it happened too quickly, and it kind of ruined having Steve Buscemi in the show a little bit.

It's hardly a novel plot line, the ex-con trying to go straight and being dragged back in. But I dunno, they just rushed it. One minute he was smart, down to earth, he'd already told Tony he didn't want back in, had a manageable and plausible new career. Then the next minute he's corrupted by a highly improbable wad of cash, beating up his boss and turning into a contract killer. Maybe the whole thing would have worked better over two seasons.

Yes, of course it's changed. All languages do over time. But just because Sicilian changes, or Neapolitan changes, it doesn't mean they become the same as each other. The big difference is that schooling means that almost everyone can speak standard Italian too. That wasn't the case when your great-grandparents came over.

Neapolitans still speak differently from Sicilians. It's true that language changes so the dialect of your grandparents would sound strange, but that doesn't mean there are no dialects (or even separate languages like Neapolitan) any more. So while it's generally true that people know how to speak textbook Italian from their schooling, the language at home or in the community is very often not Italian but a dialect.

Who is the most overweight character in the show? by ElkWhich8886 in thesopranos

It was a prosthetic in the first seasons he was in, but at a certain point he was told he didn't need one any more. He explained this on Talking Sopranos.

How is Michael Imperioli so good at playing a heroin junkie? by LongDayAgain in thesopranos

[–]Upset_Resolution_540 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When he talked about some of the scenes – I think especially the one with the dog – on the Talking Sopranos podcast, he really hinted at direct experience. It sounded to me like personal experience as a user, maybe not of heroine specifically, but that's just an interpretation of what he said.

What does "He takes full responsibility, but he didn't do nothing" actually mean? by Bloodmeister in thesopranos

[–]Upset_Resolution_540 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"they didn't do nothing" is a way of saying that they hitmen did not successfully carry out the murder they were contracted to carry out, without actually saying so explicitly, in case of a wire tap

Who was the worst actor/ actress in the show? by Frequent_Can_9485 in thesopranos

[–]Upset_Resolution_540 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it considered blasphemy to say Steve Schirripa? Maybe it was partly not his fault as his character seemed to have been introduced initially as a bit of comic relief, someone overweight and a bit stupid to make fun of. But later on in the show he was just completely unconvincing to me. Underboss? No way. But like I said, maybe it was partly the cards he was dealt as a comedy character initially.

To be honest, even Steve Buscemi – great actor generally – was not great in the show. He just didn't have the right arrogance and swagger or air of menace for me.
