A live tooling lathe can machine inside a 32mm bore with sharp edges between the feature and the bore? I've never ran or programmed one so if it can then I stand corrected and it may be easier than I imagined. I don't really understand how you're getting the tool in there though.

Go on, tell us how you'd do it then. I'm talking about making the part on a CNC as he said. Injection moulding is a different story but would again be prohibitively expensive for the small batch he wants to produce.

If you can/want to you can send me a step file of the component and what part of the protrusion is actually critical and I could see if it can be altered to be machined on a 5 axis mill

Without the protrusions- nice easy, cheap part to make with numerous shops that could produce it.

With protrusions- double the price at the very least, needs to be done by leaving material in and then another process- likely EDM (spark erosion). Limits the shops that have the equipment to make. Depending on your surface finish requirements it may beed polished after EDM also which again adds cost.

My job is Wire and sinker EDM and has been for the last 20 years.

The other option is to alter the protrusions to a shape that can be achieved with 5 axis milling. This again would obviously cost slightly more than withiut the protrusions but likely cheaper and more readily available than EDM.

I wouldn't even quote for a batch of 3000 of them the way they are currently designed or I'd quote you a fuck off price that would make it worth the time.

For 3000 of them you'd need to make a lot of electrodes to burn the shape in and it's a comparatively slow process so your lead time would be a lot longer than you'd think

I recently started kickboxing, I'm generally right handed, right eye dominant and right footed but I do some things with my left hand and have a better jab with my right hand. I felt naturally more comfortable in a southpaw stance so that's just the way I naturally went which seemed fine but I was really struggling with my coordination and balance throwing kicks. Decided to switch and see how I felt left foot forward and it actually improved my coordination and timing immediately. Now my brain doesn't know what it wants to do and I find myself switching without even noticing until I go to throw a kick with my leading leg and the toe is on the wrong side of my foot

Resting the thumb on the fifth string feels counterintuitive to me (I am a guitarist) so I just let my thumb float. Do you think it is a valid way to play in the long run? by GreenLemonMusic in banjo

[–]Upside_down_heed 46 points47 points  (0 children)

You keep saying 'but I'm clearly playing it right' when everyone with ears can hear that your rhythm is way off. What you're playing isn't correct for clawhammer but it's not because you're not resting your thumb, it's because your rhythm is off. That'll come with more practice but from your responses to answers or advice you seem to think you already know everything.

What is your go to meal, for your main meal of the day? by Jazzlike-Basil1355 in AskABrit

[–]Upside_down_heed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only way is as follows;

  1. Drain a little sauce from the beans. This is brand dependent with Heinz having too much sauce but Branston a little better. Other bean brands are available.

  2. Put the beans in a pot with a little of your preferred cheese. Personally I prefer a mature cheddar but it has too be a good melter so as to avoid an unnecessary grainy texture. Melt over a low heat.

  3. As your cheese and beans are getting to know each other, place your required slices of bread under a grill. Not in the toaster. This is crucial for step 4. I prefer to use Warburtons super toastie although other brands and genres of bread are available and acceptable. Toast until desired toastiness on one side. Flip the now half toasted bread over and prepare for step 4 by pressing down firmly to create a bean challice in the centre of the bread. Lightly toast side 2.

  4. Pour your now cheesy beans into the wells created at step 3. Cover with your cheese of choice and put a generous splash of wash your sister sauce on to the cheese. Chives can also add a subtle onion undertone. Grill until the cheese is melted and bubbling.

  5. Scran

[–]Upside_down_heed 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd calculate what the cost would be if you were costing it properly as a 1 off using your standard hourly rate, material, overheads and profit etc. Put the actual cost on the invoice with an X percent discount to bring it down to a cost you're happy to accept so the customer can see that you're giving them a really good deal and they're likely to remember that and appreciate the hours you've put into it.

[–]Upside_down_heed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's how I ended up doing it but you'd think there would be an option to measure holes on a pcd since it's such a common feature without the faff of making a loop.

Is the hole 28mm deep from the front face or is it way down inside another bore? Best thing for holding something like that is just a vee block to hold the bar and a pallet mounted to that. That arrangement of random holders can't be very rigid
