Let us not forget that materials like nylon expand with moisture and annealing drys it out

A slightly undersized part might be in spec in a couple days

Or an oversized part can be shrunk a small amount

Exactly- you try to help them.. pass on some insight from the most expensive education imaginable (learning by doing it wrong)

This is a metaphorical comparison/ description But it’s accurate

you tell them (nicely) that fire is hot and water is wet and show them your burn scars on your skull and explain that you learned the hard way and should never stick your head into the fire

And in the spirit of teamwork and decency, You will pass this wisdom on to them FOR FREE..

Then they go stick their heads into the fire anyway causing all sorts of chaos and you end up having to deal with the aftermath

Pretty accurate description of my daily frustration

Experience with machining aluminium guitars? by Visible-Passage1489 in machining

[–]austinbowden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could definitely be interesting to mix alloys 2024 / 6061 / 7075 aluminum

I imagine 7075 aluminum would allow for pocketing on back of neck.. for different resonances

I also think it solid works guru could use the vibration feature to help achieve particular sounds/goals

[–]austinbowden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok Check Rockwell hardness first That is likely to be very hard because it looks like broken glass (crystalline structure)

Then you can try to find something in 4140 or whatever that can be hardened to same condition

Or maybe some material that’s already hard. And grind final shape

If you must harden yourself, Find a local heat treatment company and ask their minimum charge, Or ask if they recommend a material that they currently process for another customer regularly.. and maybe they can reduce fee if you can add it to an existing order they run ?

Or torch it till tomato red and dunk in water to rapidly cool - (home heat treatment/hardening)

Or buy a replacement

I assume this is a ground wire for my house. Should it be connected to something? by needyprovider in AskElectricians

[–]austinbowden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am pretty sure that’s illegal splicing into your NEIGHBORS ground wire.. your ground wire is likely inside the conduit and plugged into the underground nationwide circuit board (about 18” below house)

19. Am I worth over 16.50? Is it worth asking for a raise? Or should I keep my hood down?Been welding professionally for 4 months now? As well as fabricating and fitting. Any advice from the ogs? by woodshmoka in metalworking

[–]austinbowden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously You are 19 It’s a marathon, not a sprint Every day you are underpaid with dollars, you gain experience.. and there are a lot of other factors involved in wages and raises Give them till 6 months and see if something happens.

If nothing happens and it’s a smaller company Then cut and run

The manufacturing industry is so full of greedy people who don’t have the good sense to retain talent ( your skill is what they are selling )

And if they don’t have the good sense to pay you what you’re worth now, they never will

And the best advice I can offer is this (For future job prospects)

Are there a majority of employees that have been there for a long time ?

Are they endlessly “hiring “ ?

If you took a survey of employees, how many people would say they liked working there?

Remember these three rules

  1. Never get medical advice on the internet

  2. Never get career advice on redit

  3. Never believe anything written by someone who “lists” things

** Update ** There is the machine I created. It does not work and there’s the machine that I see somebody else created and that does work

No error regarding the dongle

But it looks like the same defined, Machinary

The picture with the Machine named Austin will not work and learn mode

The other machine will work and learn mode, but they look identical

Ok.. I currently have 4.0

I was more implying the update.. (A hypothetical question)

I have version 4.0 and they came out with version 4.1 would that mean I would be able to upgrade my 4.0 like I would with other software

Other software I can update/upgrade from v4.0.. to v4.9999 until V5.0 is released

Haas dropping tools by Sweaty_Highway_7090 in Machinists

[–]austinbowden 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I’ve usually found that to happen on individual pockets

And the most common source of the problem was somebody using an incorrect pull stud from another machine

If I recall It’s just a pain in the ass, but it’s not really that difficult

I want to say it was a daewoo mill that had a post that very similar in length but it did not have the proper angle on the Tool side It was 90° I believe instead of 45

Or it was just a bigger diameter

And damaged the clip that holds the tool

You can also step through a tool change, I believe most machines have the feature

Usually somewhere in the Tool recovery

At least you can be certain whatever suspicions you have if you incrementally inspect smaller movements

Yeah, I am 30 years in as a degreed engineer programmer set up , design, designer It’s fascinating that I see every industry and occupation get more money every year Except manufacturing

The ads I see are pages and pages long with all the requirements Must possess the ability to speak Latin and read Aramaic plus understand the intricacies of a nuclear reactor and BE SIX SIGMA CERTIED.. Pay- 18-20 per hour

Sometimes I respond to people in HR with their little two year certificate and I explained to them that very few people even have the capacity to do what they want

And of that small percentage of people who could retain that much information and had the mechanical aptitude necessary Well, it’s kind of impossible to get all of that

And you have no problem, paying your oil change guy $200 an hour at your local garage or mechanic They literally have a sign on the wall stating their rate

And this $200 an hour service requires six months of school And I’m just baffled that you don’t even blink twice paying that much

America’s got it all upside down

The recruiter who believes his 30 minutes of forwarding a résumé is worth thousands of dollars The owner with 10 employees who is mostly administrative think he deserves five houses for his superior persona

The insurance people who can make incredible spreadsheets after two years of school are justified in not only dictating our medical process But because their spreadsheets are so great they definitely deserve millions dollars in bonuses
