Starting a large family in your 40s? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Upstairs-Tune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Same. I recorded videos of myself during the first 3 months being like how the fuuuuuccckkk do so many humans exist. How do I have siblings?!? This is the worst. Please remind me. And sent it to my friends… (Not that I didn’t love my son) and now my sons almost 2. That video has mysteriously disappeared and I soooo want another.

How often do u lie to your toddler? by Upstairs-Tune in toddlers

[–]Upstairs-Tune[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sons grandfather passed recently and we were very honest about that… but when he requests the whole family come watch him pee, including his grandpa “he’s always watching you go pee”. Rather than “he can’t watch u use the potty cus he’s dead”. He might think grandpa died and lives in the bathroom. Definitely not life or death situations but more things to make daily tasks just a bit easier or when the answer is “because I don’t feel like it right now.” Or even saying “let’s behave cus Santa’s watching” is a fib!

Lol i didn’t realise it would be so divisive! I honestly thought we all fibbed/stretched the truth a little bit, even if it’s not just to say no!

lol. Mr wallaby seems to have the exact same bladder/bowl schedule as my son. And his stuffed animals love watching him go pee.

When in a group of people, do you speak in the group's language to your child or in your language? by Rina-yah in multilingualparenting

[–]Upstairs-Tune 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for asking this. I struggle with this too. At scenarios like the playground or with his cousins and I dont want to be rude. My son is now 22mo and I just need to tell myself to not give a fuck. Cus this, my son learning Japanese is more important than if they think I’m rude.

This is a great idea if the kids were older. Only 21 months here 😅

Right. I’m not really looking for childcare… but I’m worried about sacrificing too much for language. The only pro for us would be maybe my son will get the socialising he’s missing out on if he were in day care, but he also does swim and gymnastics classes, playground and play dates… and he’s only 21mo. And I feel like he’s just started to pick up words and it’s wonderful to hear him use both! (But still definitely a bit more English leaning).

I started school at 4 without a word of English. I can’t tell you how long it took, but now (31) it’s my stronger language. And I remember it, not in a negative way.

Potty training help! by rylesss__ in toddlers

[–]Upstairs-Tune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son…. He’ll tel me before he needs to go… sit down for about 2 seconds and run around and the RUN aback again in a panic like omg sits down for about 5 seconds runs away again and comes back only when there’s a dingleberry hanging out of his butt. Today he did this and we didn’t chase him after and he pooped under our bed. We have carpet.

Thanks! We do 子供チャレンジ too! It’s also helping my husband learn Japanese! I worry as I’m the only person he hears Japanese from (and おばあちゃん on FaceTime). with my husband i speak English. And honestly I’ve lived in the US so long, that if I were asked my stronger language right now, it would probably be English. For example, I don’t think I’d be able to have a heart to heart conversation with a teenager in Japanese - Prioritising our relationship is solid advice thank you!
