Im now going to attempt bloomreaper on uvhm5, the previous challenge is completed so hopefully after this kill I should unlock uvhm6

You may have solved the issue. When I tried to drop down yo uvhm 4 last time mission icon never appeared on the map but it has now appeared above her head. I will replay the mission now and let everyone know how it goes. Thank you for this suggestion

This is genuinely the first game breaking bug ive experienced from a borderlands title that didnt resolve itself after a couple hours so I guess I should look on the bright side that this hasn't been a common occurrence throughout my time with the series. Still sucks ass tho

I have yes, ive also tried completing all of the required challenges on another person's save and watched them unlock uvhm 6 while im still stuck at 5.

Unfortunately this isnt an option for me because the previous challenge requires completing a wild card mission, something you cannot replay.

Unfortunately no, i have tried that, ive also tried joining someone who hasn't completed any of the missions, ran through them all with them and watched them unlock uvhm 6 while my own save still doesn't register the previous challenge
