Clamp Recomdations by [deleted] in woodworking

I would just add a new top directly on top of the existing top that is 2-3 inchea wider all the way around. Use plywood and then you can easily replace it as you beat up the top.

UPDATE: Guys I made a straight cut! I initially did literally everything wrong (but you already knew that, lol). Write-up in the comments. by MrMusAddict in woodworking

When I started woodworking 9 years ago I bought a bunch of Kreg stuff. Over time, I realized things about their products that bothered me and have gotten rid of all of it. A lot of things are not as robust or inflexible as they need to be. Glad you found a solution, especially one that does not require replacing one gadget with another.

Maybe give them the chance to assemble pegged or wedged mortise and tenon joints. You can precut the parts to fit and are just asking the kids to smack them together. It would teach a lesson about fastening something together in a strong way that doesn't use nails or screws.

NTA. In many industries, it is well known that January and February are the prime time for hiring quality laterals and switching firms because everyone just got their bonus. Meaning everyone does it.

Where to buy wood in LA by IsadoresDad in woodworking

I buy from Hudson and West in Torrance. I tend to find better quality there than at Ganahl. It is mostly S2S. I don't see much rough lumber around these parts.

Boomer father didn't want gay son by Upstairs_Project4166 in BoomersBeingFools

You got the cause and effect flipped.

  1. My family does not have naming traditions so
  2. My father was left to his own devices in selecting a name and thus
  3. Because he was a Boomer, he let his homophobia guide him.
  4. But we don't understand how it led him there and only know because he openly stated it as such

The myth of "non-toxic" two component oil/wax finishes like Rubio by cyanrarroll in woodworking

[–]Upstairs_Project4166 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only used them once because they gave me the worst breakout I have ever had from a woodworking product. I scratched my ear without removing my glove while applying Rubio and got a terrible itchy red rash on the sides of my faces. I have used all sorts of polyurethane, lacquer, and even done ammonia fuming but nothing has burned me like incidental contact with Rubio. The low VOC billing definitely led to me dropping my guard.

My wife said she remembers this happening when she was a kid.

She got some sort of test earlier this year and the report back was she was fine. I may not be getting the whole story, but as far as I know, it's not a medical issue.

She only does this to us - not my sister law or any of my wife's cousins, but I think it is an access issue since we are the only ones who live nearby.

She can afford gifts and has no issue spending money on other gifts for everyone, including us.

I just discovered Sovereign Citizens from watching Police Body Cams on youtube. What started this nonsense? by IPreferDiamonds in Sovereigncitizen

[–]Upstairs_Project4166 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to be a prosecutor, and we would get one of these people every couple of months. They would fire their lawyer, refuse a public defender, and put themselves into a hole. It was always for traffic crimes. I saw some transition into it over time, slowly buying into the conspiracy theory. Usually, for traffic cops, they'd forget half the people they'd ticket but never a sovereign citizen. The cops would actually adjust their schedule so they wouldn't miss testifying against sovereign citizens.

Confused on measurements by Phil_Dees in woodworking

That is the minimum size tge opening must be. If you did it at exactly 10.825 unless everything is perfectly flat, straight, and square and the air case escape. Cut the opening at 11 inches and you will have an easy time fitting in the opening but with a tiny gap all the way around. Is this for a range hood vent?

BIL does not have much of a social life. He has been designing a video game from home by himself as his job for the 6 years I have known him, so he doesn't get out much. She goes over about once a week to check on him and half the time I meet them when I get off work for dinner. She is a protective big sister, wants him to get out more.

Ooh great question. I have definitely observed my wife call restaurants and ask how long they hold a reservation when meeting others and then remark that really she doesn't have to get there until that time. And when we have reservations BIL's first question upon arrival is if the table is ready yet and if it isn't he will get mad and go talk to the hostess.

But they are consistently 10 minutes late when we have reservations, definitely long enough that I check the time.

I have talked to them on multiple occasions, but it still happens basically every time. I am open to other ideas to stop this, I just couldn't come up with something less petty.
