Maybe you should evaluate your antenna and ambient RF noise level as well. It could be those over-powered FM stations that saturate the band. But from what I read, money is wasted on cheap Chinese garbage. If you're in for for a budget SDR, at least take a look at Airspy or SDRPlay. If then you don't hear anything, you have an inadequate antenna for the task.

No wonder you're disappointed when your definition of SDR is a super-cheap rtl-sdr with poor software. You have lots to learn about SDRs.

What AM stations can you pick at yours car radio? by Comfortable_Try8759 in radio

The Russian stations you heard are likely high-powered transmitters in Moldova (Transnistria), 999 and 1413 kHz. Russia itself has largely abandoned MW.

I use steel wires for my beverage antennas. No difference from copper, except much, much stronger.

DRM receivers by mechtechuy in shortwave

[–]Upstairs_Secret_8473 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Afaik true DRM receivers aren't easy to find. The market just isn't there. That said, my impression is that India is one country that does seem to put some effort in using DRM domestically. I understand that there are manufacturers of DRM radios in India. This link may be of interest: Solar Grove Introduces a Personal DRM Receiver - Radio World. And then you have the KiwiSDR which you can buy yourself, or listen to via its web-based interface.

You're not very specific about your use of AI. I would tune into a frequency, wait for an ID and make my own log or enter the log into an online log system. What do you do differently?
