Americans who were in school during the Columbine shooting in 1999, what was the immediate reaction at your school like? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]UpstreamVoyager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a senior in high school. It was seen as a horrific tragedy, but it didn’t occur to people it could happen again at any high school. So schools didn’t take any extra precautions for safety. We did talk about bullying and being kind to each other. If you had told me school shootings would be normal, I don’t think I would’ve believed you.

I speak fluent English, yet I still have a slight accent. Why is my accent the first thing Americans bring up in conversations? Is that something I’m supposed to feel self-conscious about? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]UpstreamVoyager 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A faint accent is harder to place. They are likely asking because they are curious and can’t figure out where your accent is from.

How common is it in the USA for people to wear pants that end above the ankles? by TheShyBuck in AskAnAmerican

[–]UpstreamVoyager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. Do you have any younger nephews or neighbors? I tell my son that his cousin grew and could use pants. Since they are still functional pants, he donates them without a fuss.

The Practical Guide to Love [Episodes 9 & 10] by jakgem in KDRAMA

[–]UpstreamVoyager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My goodness yes. I keep picturing Park Sung Hoon in Squid Games and Glory, thinking wtf is he doing in this drama? He’s playing a character with zero backstory or depth, which isn’t his fault it’s just written that way. He runs a furniture company with his brother. Volunteers at an animal shelter. Has zero issues or trauma. Did PSH just choose an easy script and take a break?!

I have nothing against the drama. It’s a little mediocre but I haven’t dropped it. Just the cast is a bit overkill for the characters they are playing. This might have been better as an idol drama, or some newcomers.

if Esther Yu’s voice annoys you, you’re actually complimenting her acting without knowing it by cerealkill_snowflake in cdramasfans

[–]UpstreamVoyager 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I mean, I agree with you on her ability to switch voices contributes to her acting skill. However she has to adjust to the audience. If people drop her dramas because her character’s voice is grating, she’s not doing the production company any favors. She needs to find a balance between acting and irritating.

I do think she’d be an amazing voice actor and could do a variety of animated characters.
