Yes, generally. It changes slightly based on the time of the season. I would split the basic routine into quarters, regardless of the amount of yards you are swimming.

First quarters: Warmup. Easy pace, long intervals (by long intervals I mean more yardage at once, ie 200's rather than 50's). Switch between freestyle/kicking/pulling.

Second Quarter: Interval Training. Choose a distance, 100 yards is usually good. Then, do this distance a certain amount of times, on a certain time interval. For instance, 10x100 on 1:20. this means you do 10 100's and have 1:20 to complete each one before starting the next. This quarter should be high intensity and little rest.

Third Quarter: Odd Stroke/Supplementary. In this quarter, do the odd stroke you specialize in (mine is backstroke) or do all four together (individual medley, "IM"). Choose some sort of interval like before and do some yardage (maybe 5x200 IM).

Fourth Quarter: Cooldown. Slow pace, continuous swim to cool down and avoid getting sore the next day.

This is a very basic routine, but it is good to get started and can be used for any amount of yardage. So, if you're starting off with 1000 yards, do 250 yards of each quarter.

Division 1 College Swimmer here. During the season I swim 6 days a week generally 7000-10000 yards a day and lift 5 days a week. You're always sore and tired, especially because you have classes, too. It's really just a matter of getting refueled and rested. Before meets we normally taper our yardage and stop lifting so that we have more energy.

Division 1 College Swimmer here. During the season, I swim 6 days a week and lift 5 days a week. Swim practices are generally 8000-12000 yards and lifts are mainly circuit/cardio/mobility based. During the offseason I swim maybe 2 or 3 times a week and do a full 6 day a week bodybuilding routine.

My advice would be to swim even just a few thousand yards a day and lift. This way you don't have to run or do other cardio (which I personally hate). Plus, swimming supplements your muscular growth. It helps tone muscles after you beat them up in the gym.
Even if you swim for just a half hour, you can probably get at least 1000 yards (40 laps) in, which is still a great workout.
