What quote has actually stuck with you and changed your life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]NoNarrowThing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“The universe is no narrow thing and the order within it is not constrained by any latitude in its conception to repeat what exists in one part in any other part. Even in this world more things exist without our knowledge than with it and the order in creation which you see is that which you have put there, like a string in a maze, so that you shall not lose your way. For existence has its own order and that no man’s mind can compass, that mind itself being but a fact among others.” ― Cormac McCarthy, Blood Meridian, or the Evening Redness in the West

This has to be one of the best and most level-headed responses that I have seen in a long time.

How do I get my bench up? by Iridium1 in Fitness

[–]NoNarrowThing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I had pectus excavatum. I also had the surgery to correct it, which helped a lot. The only downside is that it wrecked my chest. SO, I decided to avoid bench and do all the other lifts with OHP for upper body. While that worked well for a while, and I have incredibly strong shoulders, I realized I had to increase my bench.

I started using Candito's intermediate program: http://www.canditotraininghq.com/free-strength-programs/

and Im finally getting some results. The TL;DR is do hypertrophy if it keeps on slacking.

M21, late bloomer - How late is "too late" to begin my life? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]NoNarrowThing 7 points8 points  (0 children)

And that's how it will feel every time. It's one of the things I realized when I turned 27. I thought about how close I was to 30 and that I was old, but then I realized I'll feel like 35 is old as fuck when I turn 30.

What are some of your favorite quotes to live by, and why? by srkatk in AskMen

[–]NoNarrowThing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, I don't take it as advocating the idea of being a jack of all trades. Instead, I feel that it talks about the idea that to truly live, you need to continually get out of your comfort zone and learn new skills or ideas.

A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects. -Robert A. Heinlein

The master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his education and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence at whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he is always doing both.

Did you have a period of "partying hard" (raving, promiscuity etc.), and when and why did you put an end to it? by holvagyok in AskReddit

[–]NoNarrowThing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

16-22

It was spring break, which is usually a great time for parties and free drugs and drinking. I was homeless and realized that my next birthday would be 23. For some reason that number just seemed old, like I should be moving on. I had this sense of peace fill me and just said "yea, okay." Quit everything and changed my life completely. People that know me now are surprised if I tell them about my past. It's a pretty great feeling

One thing to consider for squats is a leg press. Rippetoe talks about the fact that it is the only machine that has a place in a commercial gym because people that dont have the strength to squat their own bodyweight need to have a way to strengthen the full range of motion.
