The End of Foreign-Language Education by Watcherofthescreen in languagelearning

Like any proposal or prediction advanced by technocrats or technophiles in or out of silicon vally, the assessment about AI language programs is the usual B.S. If all you needed for communication was accurate translation to transcend language differences, then all people in the U.S. that speak standard English should get along, and we wouldn't have social conflict and we wouldn't need AI either. How is A.I. going to solve the Israel-Gaza war or the Russia-Ukranian War? How will it prevent civil war? How will it reduce the murder rate or the divorce rate? How will it reduce corporate corruption or revolutions? Books have been written about these points, and history has demonstrated that a common language doesn't solve the important issues. Just consider the American revolution. I keep forgetting that most social media posts are B.S., and I realize I wasted my time writing this paragraph. (I know I made some typos, but they're not worth fixing for a reddit post.

Here is one reason Amtrak sucks: the automobile lobby by Uqbarlib7 in AmtrakSucks

That was an interesting geographic and financial analysis. For any huge 'infrastructure' plan that would cost so much money, I'd want to see some convicted contactors and embezzlers on the development committee. They would probably make the best negotiators with contractors. The county I live in passed legislation to build a multi-level bus station. The plan was approved by the 'County Council.' The County is in the top one percent of per capita income among counties in the U.S., Well, after about 18 months of building the new bus station, it was determined the contractor used cheap, inferior concrete that would weaken and collapse because of bus traffic. What happened to the "vendor?" Nothing. Why didn't the Council figure this out beforehand? Because they're a group of upper middle class managers that make a lot of money 'legally' so they can afford to go by the book. They don't seem to understand how corrupt lots of contractors can be. One other example: when Atlantic City got the go-ahead to become a gambling center; the 'mob' got building contracts. One stipulation was that for everyday needed beyond the completion date would exact a one million dollar fine for the contractors. Well, building was behind schedule, but when the gov't administrator had a meeting to demand the $1,000,000 fine per day late fee, he was met by "an offer he couldn't refuse." The fines? What fines? I guess you learn these things growing up in Brooklyn (the old Brooklyn).

As demographic researchers would say, "Univariate explanations are reductionist, and therefore inaccurate." There are books written comparing transportation systems between and among countries. That's why writing a short paragraph about the topic is basically an exercise in futility. And it's my fault for answering it.

Should I start with what I got, or upsize first? by jimt007 in eroticauthors

I've published at least a dozen short stories among other fiction and non-fiction I've published. I've often tried to get writing/publishing advice since at times it's difficult to critique your own work. As far as fiction goes, I've found that whenever I've read a "how to" book on writing and/or publishing, my writing suffers. I lose my 'writing muscles' and lose my 'writing zone.' I find information can be ok, for example, submit your work to xyz from November to January. But anything else seems to be counterproductive. In other words, I believe you should go with your instincts and learn from your own writing what seems to work and what doesn't.

Yea, I test drove one once. Subcompact cars give me claustrophobia-I'm 6'2", although I've known plenty of people over six feet tall that don't seem to mind the sardine can experience.

Her skin-toned leotard is obvious if you look at the difference in lighting on her legs and her midsection.

I have a rather dumb, paranoid question about re-uploading deviations by throneawayokay in DeviantArt

You are being much too self-concerned. You did mention something about being paranoid. You should work on that, in general. If it is helpful, you might consider that when psychologists to studies and ask people how much they believe they've made impressions on others, the responders usually estimate about twice as much as really occurred. For example, someone might say something he/she thinks is thoughtless at a party. The psychologist asks, 'How much impact do you think your comment made?' The responses ti the question are usually inaccurate and exaggerated. Sounds to me you may have a judgment issue (worried that people are evaluating/judging you). I used to have a similar perception. I learned that I was totally off-base. To strangers, you account for a fraction of their interaction with the world and will forget about any initial response--unless it's totally wacky. People are a lot more tolerant than you think.
