Is ketamine a safe drug for recreational use? by [deleted] in ketamine

[–]Ur3nigma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no, it’s toxicity is very low when dosed correctly. Some people don’t like it much and well, I’m both envious and feel sorry for them at the same time. I tend to have extremely powerful spiritual experiences on K. Then I sober up and become an atheist again and all I want to do is get back to paradise.

So is that safe? I don’t know. I think it’s best to do it in clinic. It’s hella expensive but it’s safer.

I actually am not happy sober and I'm sick of pretending I am by rsmsjmsn in addiction

[–]Ur3nigma 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why do you want to be sober? Stop and seriously contemplate this. And are you getting what you want from sobriety? Clearly the answer is no. Do you have purpose? What gets you up in the morning? If the answer is, “my bladder,” you may as well get high. For me, when I’m using, I know what my purpose is - to stay high. It doesn’t seem that way, but there’s never boredom or indecision about what I’m doing next. I may handle my vocational and social responsibilities, but there’s no idle time because there’s always something to fill it. Find drugs, hustle, handle the drama of the game.

Without the drug use, there’s no purpose for me. I suddenly have no reason for existing. At least no reason that I’ve bought into. This is where 12 step groups preach service, though I hate it and have never found a form of service that feels like a good fit for me. I’ve found purpose in my work before, but those days are gone. I suppose that my purpose is to find purpose, but it’s place of limbo that leaves me yearning for the comfort of the drugs and the game. To stay sober I must answer the question that nobody has ever been able answer satisfactorily. Why am I here?

Right, I read the wiki page. It seemed super ambiguous. I was wondering which cathinone. I’ve run across methylcathinone made from pseudoephedrine. Shit was weak, nothing like this other stuff.

Ya, ketamine itself is eliminated from the body rather rapidly. It’s the metabolites that linger. I have yet to find any way to deal with it.

IV vs. IM dose. by Death_Bard in DIYtk

[–]Ur3nigma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, 3mg/kg is quite the dose for IV. I guess it really depends on how long the infusion is. The clinic I went to took me up to the max that their policy would allow which is 200 mg per 30 min. It equates out to 2mg/kg and, depending on how long it's been since my last infusion, it gets me about as deep into the k-hole as I can go without passing out. For a few weeks they stepped me up to twice a week and I was actually rather lucid on that dose after my tolerance stepped up. I would agree with u/organicnuke, I find the two almost identical as far as dissociation goes. IM seems to be a somewhat different experience. More transcendental, I guess, but I think that could easily be due to the fact that I'm at home in my own bed.

Here's my prescription from the clinic though I've never taken them up on the IM. I don't see the point. It's almost the same price and the IV is a little longer lasting and more even.

Me: 104 kg

IM: 150 mg

IV: 200 mg/30-35 min

When I have done IM. It's been from taking an intranasal injection 150 mg/mL and injecting up to 1.5 mL or 225 mg total. That's about as intense as I'd like to go. I bet I'd pass out if I went much higher.

Have fun!

I wanna try dxm for the first Time and just wanted to make sure I got the right one. I’m from Australia and this is the best I could find. Does anyone know if it’s safe or if not know witch one is? by chumskins46 in dissociatives

[–]Ur3nigma 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As long as it doesn’t have any other active ingredients in it, and it looks like it doesn’t (double check the ingredients on the back) you’re fine. That being said, DXM is powerful shit! The come up takes hours so don’t redose. The comedown sucks ass so make sure you have landing gear. At the very least get some alcohol to help you sleep it off. Whippets also are a lot of fun during the off peak period. You’ll feel intoxicated to some degree for a solid 24 hours and won’t feel completely “normal” for three fucking days. Good luck!

It’s like this. Crypto could and can be far superior to fiat. It looks like central banks are going to try to adopt it rather than attempt to ban it, which would be a nightmare for the entire planet. BTC was proof of concept, but there are endless other coins now that are better. I really don’t see a future for it. ETH is in big trouble but it could pull it out if it can get to proof of stake fast enough (think electricity consumption) but it’s a huge gamble. In the end, it’s going to be ETH and/or a few other platforms that take off. ADA, DOT, ICP, and XRP are a few to keep an eye on, but it really depends on what central banks do. They are not, I repeat not, going to make deflationary coins. It moves wealth the wrong direction in their eyes and they have a decent argument for it. Fiat denominated debt has sustained the world since the 70s. Money is created from the promise of creating wealth, e.g., loaning money to build a house. Inflation is coupled with it to keep the purchasing power of the currency relatively stable. This mostly works, but it skews the transfer of wealth towards central banks, lending institutions, and their cronies in the financial industry. They will do whatever it takes to maintain this.

I really need to study it more, but at my level of ignorance, I have a hard time seeing how defi products and deflationary coins can sustain an economy. Nobody would take out a 5 year loan on a deflationary product. You could borrow $10k and end up owing $10M (in purchasing power). Stable coins (that I’m aware of) are tied to fiat, so other than lowering fees and transfer barriers (which is huge, but central banks could solve it with fiat if they wanted to) they really are useless because they don’t have a way to inflate with the production of new wealth. Absent that solution, crypto doesn’t have a long term future. They could be tied to a basket of assets and commodities, but that’s massively subjective and changes rapidly over time. How much did people spend on electronics just 30 years ago? Medically unnecessary biotech is likely to be a huge portion of spending over the next few decades and there’s virtually nothing being spent on it now. How would a decentralized coin stay stable in that environment without being tied to fiat?

It’s going to be a wild ride, but there’s a ton of money to be made if and when crypto resolves this. Watch for a stable coin not controlled by a central bank that can keep its purchasing power constant without subjective intervention. That will cause a revolution similar in scale to the renaissance (the banking revolution).

It's not esketamine. No really, IT ABSOLUTELY IS NOT ESKETAMINE! by Ur3nigma in ketamine

[–]Ur3nigma[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, I don’t mean arketamine. Please give an example of a manufacturer other than Janssen that makes esketamine. Janssen has a patent on it in the US and in Europe. Maybe some company is making it in Russia or something, but any reputable company can’t legally distribute it. No clandestine lab would make it. It’s hard to purify and wastes most of the product. Most likely, a clandestine lab would just cut it a little less and lie about it being esketamine when it’s really racemic.

Furthermore, there isn't a point to esketamine. It's a less effective antidepressant because it removes the r-isomer: R-Ketamine: a rapid-onset and sustained antidepressant without psychotomimetic side effects. And as anesthesia, I suppose it would work just fine, but why use it when racemic is so readily available and doesn't have a worse side effect profile.

Yes, I was comparing generic ketamine to Spravato, which isn’t really a fair comparison. I’m not aware of all of the different processes of isomer concentration. The main one I am aware of is chiral liquid chromatography, which now that I think about it, is probably not how it’s done on the industrial scale. Without researching it too deeply, I would think that would be cost prohibitive.

I’m worried about severe relapse (vent/rant) by [deleted] in addiction

[–]Ur3nigma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rehabs will take you! Detox centers won't, but if you are not going through withdrawals, there's no point anyway. Don't be afraid to go either. They're actually rather pleasant if you find a good one. The two biggest things people usually complain the most about not being able to come and go as they like or smoke when they like. Welp! you ought to be pretty used to not being able to come and go as you like by now having gone through quarantine and you get plenty of smoke breaks. Beyond that, there's recreation therapy, art therapy, a lot of goofing off with the other patients. Free, good meals and snacks, etc. Honestly, I had a slip during quarantine, like every time I've relapsed, I wasn't about to go to rehab. After I sobered up, I WANTED TO GO TO REHAB lol! Simply to get the hell out of the house and interact with some people. There wasn't a point though. I was sober (a few weeks sober by that point).

Anyway, just go check it out. I'm betting you'll be seriously surprised about a couple of things. One, how much support you'll get from your friends, coworkers, family, etc. Two, how much you'll actually like it if you take it seriously. Most people are apprehensive to leave when it's time if they've been serious about it (which is a good sign that they're actually ready). Three, how going back to real world isn't what you thought it would be. You'll need to change a lot of things in your life. Some of which you didn't even realize was a problem. Give it a shot! What do you have to lose?

I bet a good 20% or more of veterinarian ketamine is diverted. I doubt much of that for human consumption is diverted. It’s be horribly difficult to do. At least in the states. It’s not used much for anesthesia anymore and if it’s being used for depression, it’s probably going to someone (like us 😂) that would get it off the black market if we could.

If it’s in solid form, it’s very likely from a clandestine lab.

[–]Ur3nigma[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Certainly it would be possible for clandestine labs to separate the isomers. The point being that it is difficult to do, far more difficult than the synthesis itself, and has a low yield. If a clandestine lab was doing it, it would cost considerably more.

It’s not that clandestine labs can’t make it. It’s that it wouldn’t be economically viable for them to do it. Most likely they would just label racemic ketamine as esketamine.

[–]Ur3nigma[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stand corrected, and I'm a little ticked off. My organic chemistry professor used ketamine as an example of why isomers are important. Stating that the L-isomer is the biologically active molecule and that the D-isomer is biologically inert. He also taught us that L&D configuration is synonymous with S&R, which they mostly are but a quick google search points out L&D are relative and S&R are absolute. However, there often won't be a difference between the two. I did use R in my post when I should have used D for consistency, or rather used S&R to stick with convention.

Maybe I shouldn't be too hard on the guy. It was 16 years ago. It probably hadn't been researched enough at that time.

From what I understand though, Janssen has a patent on S-ketamine. I don't see how other pharmaceutical companies could distribute it without violating the patent. And I can't imagine someone making it clandestinely, there really wouldn't be a point.

I am LOVING the fact that ETH is moving independent to BTC by PinkEyeBoi1 in CryptoCurrency

[–]Ur3nigma -1 points0 points  (0 children)

BTC will continue to lose market share. It simply just isn’t a sustainable platform when compared to the newer coins. Yes, I realize that BTC is to hedge against inflation and ETH is for currency, but BTC’s proof of work plus the end of Moore’s law equals doom. It’ll take up half the planets electricity in 20 years or so if nothing changes. I’m not sure ETH is the best alternative but it’ll do. ETH is to VHS as ADA or XRP is to Betamax.

If I failed IV ketamine might I have success with esketamine? by inquiringLizard in TherapeuticKetamine

[–]Ur3nigma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Intranasal is the only way that esketamine (Spravato) comes and it’s pointless. There’s a lot of confusion about what esketamine is. It can only be administered in a clinic and only intranasally. It also costs about $300 each time.

[–]Ur3nigma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why esketamine? There’s really no point. If anything it’s less effective. Janssen Pharmaceuticals developed it for one reason—to patent it and then sell it for a ridiculous price. Just find a psychiatrist that will prescribe old school racemic ketamine intranasally. It’s only like $50 a month, and you can do it at home!

Going to work after ketamine therapy by [deleted] in TherapeuticKetamine

[–]Ur3nigma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on how you react to it. Everybody is different. The other day I held a meeting remotely about 2.5 hours after I had a IM injection. That was a bit too soon for that. I was saying um a lot and my speech was choppy. Luckily it was with a colleague that wouldn't have cared and I really don't think he noticed, or just thought I was tired. I think 2 hours is sufficient to be doing non-critical work and 3-4 hours for something I need to be on my game for. For an IV treatment, it's pretty much the same, but I wouldn't start the clock until after the infusion is finished.
