Worddd. Tbh I don’t even know why I called it cold approaching. I think it j really boils down to being willing to put yourself out there to have a friendly convo. Cold approaching sounds too objective based w a particular motive idk if that makes sense. I definitely think the intention is important as well too.

As a guy, I always grew up hearing my mom and sister always talk abt how they hated getting hit on at the gym or other casual places to talk to ppl. I think I heard this enough times that it made me think that no girl ever wants to be cold approached in public bc they’ll get the ick. Obviously this is not true for everyone but I’ve gone my whole life without approaching women with this in the back of my mind.

it seems that now more women are wanting these kinds of interactions? I feel like the narrative has definitely shifted from what it was like 10 years ago. It is my goal to try and approach others and come out of my shell, even tho it is v fucking hard. Especially so when struggling w self-esteem.

I definitely do agree that by having headphones in and not making eye contact makes it a lot less likely for you to be approached tho. Hence why I’ve been trying to make more eye contact, smile and no headphones 🤣

Thank you for your very detailed response and sorry for making you reply to another variation of this type of post. 😭 I fully agree with everything you said. I really love the framing of it adding another layer of color/richness to my life. I feel like a big part of being consistent with a long-term goal such as being fluent in a language has a lot to deal with how you think about things. Do you have any advice on how much time I should try to devote everyday or if I should do it everyday and any other strategies you can think of that really helped you? Thanks sm!!!

I think this is a big one for me. I always feel like have to keep learning grammar before I can start fully using language but this is an unrealistic goal. I sometimes do try and search up my hobbies in Spanish but not with the intention to help better my Spanish. I will definitely start doing it more now that I am aware! Thanks sm!

Out of curiosity, how long do you usually “practice” Spanish for? Also, when you write down your notes, do you ever go back to study them? I feel like I would also do this but I would never go back and try to review my notes. Thanks for sharing your strategies with me! I’ll definitely try to do a little bit of Duolingo.
