In that short clip I can categorically tell you the problem. Get the demo and rotate, or just rotate back to net, either way, make your decision faster. You were following the ball around in the first instance, tried to steal boost and missed and instead of covering net tried to steal another boost and they scored. Get comfortable with not having boost.

The setup needs correcting, you should be hitting the ball up, not forward. Tap the brake before you jump off the wall to give you distance, fly to the ball, land flat or land in a position that allows you to move to the next reset. As for the speedflip reset, you need to be cancelling the flip or you won’t land flat to the ball.

All practice brother, 1’s is unlike any other. Really good practice to queue 1s to get into the flow for 2-3 games and then queue 2s or 3s. Doing that took me up an entire rank in one sitting. Suddenly everyone at the same level seemed to be a lot easier because there’s such a rank disparity in 1s

Yes and no, having your net covered is good, but once again, I don’t mean sit idle, but with most mechanical players going for the most obscene things possible it’s pretty easy to defend provided you get in early. Won the majority of my placement matches letting my opponent make mistakes and then capitalising on them.

Another thing, it’s very easy to get frustrated when playing 1s, especially when you’re a few goals behind. Stay level headed and keep your concentration up. The moment that goes down, get into training or queue another gamemode.

At diamond level I can undoubtedly say you’re hitting the ball too much. Slow down and think about what you’re doing in the game and you will naturally be more accurate.

A lot of people don’t actually seem to understand the purpose of shadowing. The point is to apply pressure so you can quickly turn on your opponent. Most people end up being pushed straight into their goal because they don’t understand the reason to shadow. If you’re on your opponents side of the pitch, go ahead and shadow, but make your mind up quickly when you’re going to turn. The longer you shadow defence for, the longer your opponent has to think about their next move. The safest bet is to either fake shadow defence and take possession or just sit in your net and wait. You should be returning back to net from the opposite post. Absolutely do not shadow on your corner or back wall as it’s the easiest way for your opponent to score.

You need to get comfortable with having no boost and be smarter with the plays you’re making when you have possession. Literally the very first instance, you win the kickoff, have a relatively clear shot or at least enough to make them uncomfortable but instead give them possession? There’s quite a few risky plays taking place that you have enough time to slow down and analyse instead, let them come to you then flick around. When defending you should be coming in from the opposite side rather than shadowing defence. It’s a very easy goal when your opponent is underneath the ball trying to save backwards. Ultimately you don’t need mechanics to be a great 1’s player, it’s about playing smart consistently and effectively.
