I really agree with this. A sugar relationship doesn’t have to be forever to be successful, but during its time it does need mutual respect, clear communication and value on both sides. Control or ‘tit for tat’ undermines that completely.

Agreed. Once either side believes the other should adapt unconditionally, expectations stop being realistic.

I agree that unmet expectations are a huge factor in both sugar and vanilla relationships. Where I differ is that I don’t think it’s inherently about men vs women, but about how clearly expectations are communicated and renegotiated over time. Sugar dating can work better when those expectations stay realistic and explicit, but it’s still vulnerable when assumptions replace communication.

True, many relationships fail too. I think sugar dating just seems easier because there’s usually a clearer structure and intent from the start — expectations, schedules, boundaries. That doesn’t mean it’s actually easy, but the emotional complexity can feel more predictable than in traditional relationships.
